Round 15

Phase: escalating

The air inside the tower feels wrong, heavy, resisting, like trying to breathe through thick water. The magical instability Halie sensed earlier isn't just lingering discomfort; it's escalating rapidly into outright danger. Chunks of masonry begin to rain down around you as the ancient structure groans and shifts ominously. Seraphine staggers backward, her eyes wide with terror as she realizes the full implications of what she's unleashed. "By the goddess!" Halie gasps, her hands raised in a desperate barrier spell. "This whole place is about to come down! Merrin—get back here NOW!"
I watch as the skeletons advance, their bony fingers scrabbling against stone, and feel a chill run down my spine that has nothing to do with the cold air of the tower. The hidden pit trap beneath the entrance gate slams shut once more, its wooden beams snapping into place with a loud creak. The arcane energy surge intensifies, casting eerie shadows on the stone floor and pressing down like a physical weight. I need to document this—need to understand what's happening before it kills us all. But how? Getting closer means putting myself in immediate danger.
I feel the ground shift beneath my feet as the hidden panel in the collapsed section of wall begins to slide open with a low, ominous rumble. My grip tightens on the mace, muscles tensing as I brace for whatever may come through that door. As the tower groans around us, I catch Jeane's eye and see the same grim determination in her expression that I know is mirrored on my own face. We're out of time to hesitate. Whatever waits beyond this threshold, we have to face it together.
Shit. Server's down again. Fine. I'll have to do this the hard way, then. Deep breath. Right. Okay. The tower's magic is collapsing faster than I expected—way faster than 'mere decay' should allow. This isn't natural deterioration; it's active magical unraveling. Probably some kind of death curse or ancient trap that reacts to living intruders. Focus on what I can control. We need to stabilize the gate's magic before it fully activates defenses, but I can barely cast a simple barrier spell with this interference. Jeane—I turn to her.—what's your assessment? Can we contain this?
