As Seraphine continues to study the runes, she suddenly gasps and her eyes widen in alarm. The ground beneath them trembles violently once more, and a loud crack echoes through the air as a section of the wall near the gate bursts open, sending dust and debris cascading down into the pit. Merrin's warning cry echoes through the chamber as the panel under the rubble slides open, revealing a dark passage that seems to lead deeper into the tower. The air inside the barrier shimmers with increased urgency, and Halie's voice trembles with concern as she prays for guidance. Jeane's eyes narrow in concentration as she maintains her barrier spell, while Varrika readies her mace, prepared for any danger that might emerge from the pit.

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

I watch Seraphine's expression shift from concentration to alarm—her wizardly instincts have detected something dangerous in those ancient patterns I couldn't see. The ground heaves again beneath us like the chest of a sleeping giant waking to anger, and when that section of wall near the gate bursts open with explosive force, dust and debris plummeting into the pit below, my heart sinks. Varrika | Fighter
I shift my weight from foot to foot, my hand instinctively moving to the comforting solidity of my mace. The air feels heavy with tension and the weight of ancient magic, and I know that whatever we decide to do, it needs to be quick. We're balanced on a knife's edge here, and one wrong move could bring this entire tower down on our heads.

I glance at Merrin, nodding in agreement as they report the hidden panel under the rubble. Good eye, I mutter, keeping my voice low. Keep watching for more traps. We can't afford to get caught off guard. Jeane's right about not rushing into that pit blindly. We need to be smart about this—use our strengths, not just our brawn.

Halie

Halie · Cleric

I feel my stomach drop as the ground heaves beneath us again—I've never felt magic this old and unstable before. The moment Jeane's barrier spell wavers, I know we're seconds away from being buried alive or worse. When that section of wall bursts open near the gate, sending more debris falling into the pit below, I see our situation crystallizing into something far more dangerous than simple exploration. We can't afford to split our attention now—the pit, the collapsing walls, this new hidden passage... each is a threat in its own right. Varrika | Fighter

The ground trembles again, harder this time, and I feel a bead of sweat trickle down my temple. Right, smart. Not stupid. I look around at the group, my eyes lingering on Halie as she prays for guidance. Anyone got any bright ideas? Because charging in there like idiots seems like a good way to end up as skeletons ourselves. As I speak, a low groaning sound echoes through the chamber—the kind of noise stone makes right before it collapses. Shit. Everyone back against the far wall! I shout. Now! I take a quick step towards Merrin, my mace ready, ready to shield them if this whole place comes down. Stay close—if we're getting out of here alive, we do it together.

Merrin

Merrin · Rogue

I crouch low, pressing myself against the far wall as Varrika's warning echoes through the chamber. The ground heaves beneath my feet like a living thing, and I feel the tower's ancient magic pulsing around us, wild and unpredictable. My eyes dart from the pit to the collapsed section of wall, taking in the scene with the trained eye of a rogue. Every inch of this place is a potential threat—traps, pitfalls, dark sorcery waiting to ensnare us. As Varrika orders everyone back, I see Jeane straining to maintain her barrier spell over the pit. The air shimmers with unnatural energy, and I know that whatever is down there is powerful—and angry at being disturbed. We need to get out of here, now, I think, my mind racing through escape plans. But we can't just run—we have a job to do.

I glance at Halie, seeing the fear and determination on her face as she prays for guidance. The cleric's instincts are sharp—if anyone can sense a way forward in this maze of magic and danger, it's her. I move closer to Varrika, my crossbow at the ready. If we're going to survive this, I mutter, we need to work together—and fast.

Seraphine

Seraphine · Wizard

I watch in horror as the wall near the gate collapses, sending another shower of debris into the pit below. The air inside Jeane's barrier shimmers with increased strain, and I can see the sorcerer struggling to maintain her spell. This whole place is coming apart at the seams, and our time is running out. We need to get out of here, I think frantically, my mind racing through escape plans. But we can't just run—we have a job to do. The Time-Splitting Sword must be our priority, even if it means pushing past the danger.

If we're going to survive this, we need to work together—and fast.
As another low groan echoes through the chamber, I feel a tremor run through the ancient stone beneath my feet. It’s time to make a decision. "Everyone back against the far wall!" I call out, my voice cutting through the chaos. "Now! Jeane, keep that barrier up if you can, but be ready to drop it if you need to save your strength!"
I turn to Merrin, seeing the rogue already crouched low, her crossbow at the ready. She’s thinking like a survivor, and I appreciate that. "Merrin, scout that new passage," I command, pointing towards the dark opening in the wall. "See if it leads anywhere safe. Varrika, you and Halie watch our backs. I’m going to try something with these runes."
My eyes fall on the cracked containment sigil again. The answer to our problem is in those runes—but they need to be complete. I need to see what they looked like when they were whole. An image flashes through my mind—the memory of a dusty tome in Elric’s hut, one I flipped through briefly before leaving. It had diagrams of ancient warding circles, including one that was a perfect match for the pattern on this wall. But it had been so long ago... I close my eyes, trying to focus on the details of that page.

Varrika

Varrika · Fighter

As the ground heaves beneath our feet again, I feel a surge of adrenaline rush through my body. The air is thick with tension and the weight of ancient magic, and I know that whatever we decide to do, it needs to be quick. I glance around at the group, my eyes lingering on Halie as she prays for guidance. Her face is tight with concentration, and I can see the fear in her eyes. We're balanced on a knife's edge here, I think to myself, and one wrong move could bring this entire tower down on our heads.

As Seraphine calls out for everyone to back against the far wall, I feel a bead of sweat trickle down my temple. The ground trembles again, harder this time, and I hear a low groaning sound echo through the chamber—the kind of noise stone makes right before it collapses. "Everyone back against the far wall!" I shout, my voice cutting through the chaos. "Now!"

"Halie?" I call out, my voice tight with concern. "What are you picking up on? Is there something specific we should know about before we move?"

I turn back to Seraphine as she studies the runes, my eyes narrowing in thought. The wizard is sharp—if anyone can find a way around these wards without setting off every trap in the place, it's her. "Seraphine, if you need anything from me while you work on those runes, just say the word," I offer. "I can keep watch or help Merrin look for more traps."

The ground shudders again, and I feel my heart pounding in my chest. Whatever we decide to do, it needs to be now. This whole place feels like it's ready to come apart at the seams. Right, I think to myself, smart. Not stupid. We can't afford to charge in there like idiots. But we can't just run either—we have a job to do. The Time-Splitting Sword must be our priority, even if it means pushing past the danger. I take a deep breath, trying to steady my nerves. This is what we trained for. What we've been working towards all this time. And now, finally, we're here—and I'll be damned if I let this tower beat us. We can do this, I think to myself, gripping my mace tighter. Together. We just need to stick together and watch each other's backs. One step at a time.

I look around at the group, my eyes meeting theirs one by one. Halie, Jeane, Merrin, Seraphine—we're all in this together. And I know that no matter what happens next, we'll face it head-on. Let's do this, I think to myself, as the ground trembles again beneath our feet. One step at a time.
