Phase: converging · forced · organic escalating

The tower's air pressed down like a physical weight, thick and resisting their passage. Torchlight flickered wildly across crumbling walls slick with some unidentifiable fluid—oil? Blood? Something worse? The whispers that had pursued them through the woods coalesced into something disturbingly like laughter echoing through the corridor ahead—a sound that scraped against sanity.
Halie descended carefully behind Merrin, every bootfall tested before weight shifted fully onto creaking boards that groaned with ominous protest. The wood felt wrong beneath her feet—too yielding in places, too rigid in others, as if the structure itself was slowly coming apart around them. Her caution was rewarded when a section of floorboard gave way under Varrika's heavier step, collapsing inward with a loud crack.
"Fucking hell!" Varrika cursed, stumbling backward as the floor swallowed her leg up to the knee. She yanked herself free before more could follow, heart pounding. "This place is a death trap!"
Merrin paused at the threshold of a new passage revealed by the collapsed staircase. The air inside was different—colder, somehow, and carrying an undertone of something foul that made her skin crawl. Ancient runes glowed faintly along the walls, pulsing with malevolent energy.
"Wait," Varrika called out sharply. "That passage could be booby-trapped for all we know. Don't touch those damned runes—they reek of sorcery that's best left alone."
Jeane's eyes narrowed as she studied the glowing symbols. She recognized this reek—the stench of demonic taint clinging to those runes like smoke to cloth. We cannot proceed through there without preparation, without understanding what manner of corruption festers in that corridor. Merrin, retrieve yourself from that ominous passage at once—I won't have my most skilled fighter succumb to a trap designed by some long-dead necromancer with a god complex.
Merrin hesitated, torn between curiosity and self-preservation. The runes pulsed again, their light seeming to intensify as she watched. "Alright," she sighed, stepping back into the main chamber. "But we can't just leave Halie trapped in the rubble. Someone needs to help her out."
Varrika grunted in agreement, already moving toward the collapsed staircase. "Aye, and we need to find a safer way through this cursed tower."
