Phase: escalating

Varrika moved forward, her heavy mace ready. The air felt thick and wrong around the tower's entrance, charged with an ancient magic that made her skin crawl. "Careful now," she muttered to Merrin, who was already working on the lock. She kept her eyes fixed on the pulsating runes covering the gate—black star symbols that seemed to draw power from something deep inside the stone structure. Each pulse sent a fresh wave of unease through her, and she gripped her weapon tighter.
Jeane, meanwhile, was pacing back and forth in front of her desk, her frustration evident in every movement. "Fucking hell," she growled, running her fingers through her long white hair. The dim light from her computer screen cast eerie shadows across her face, highlighting the sharp angles of her cheekbones and the slight points of her curved horns. She'd been trying to access some system or another for what felt like hours now, but every attempt ended in error messages and more cursing.
Merrin approached the gate with cautious determination, her quick hands already working on the complex locking mechanism. The runes pulsed with dark energy, each star symbol seeming to watch them with malevolent intent. But she pushed those thoughts aside—she'd dealt with worse locks than this before. With a few deft twists and clicks, the mechanism gave way, and the gate swung open a few inches with a groan of ancient hinges.
Seraphine stepped back quickly, her sharp eyes fixed on the now-open gateway. The dark energy emanating from within was even stronger, and she could feel it crawling across her skin like tiny insects. "Wait," she said sharply, holding up a hand to stop anyone from rushing in. "We need to be careful here. Those runes... they're not just decorative. They're a warning." She pulled out her spellbook, flipping through the pages with quick, nervous movements. "I need to research this before we go any further."
The four women stood at the threshold of the tower, tension thick in the air between them. The entrance yawned darkly ahead, revealing only deeper shadows and the promise of untold dangers within. But they'd come too far to turn back now—the Time-Splitting Sword was waiting for them somewhere inside, and they were determined to claim it, no matter what ancient evils guarded its resting place.
Varrika's voice cut through the tense silence. "Alright then," she said, her tone grim but resolute. "Let's get this over with. But keep your eyes open—something tells me we're not alone in there." She stepped forward, her mace held at the ready, and the other three women fell into formation behind her, each one preparing for whatever horrors awaited them within the accursed tower.*
