I step forward, my heavy mace gripped tightly in my hands. The air feels thick with tension and ancient magic, and I can feel the weight of the tower looming over us. "Careful now," I mutter to Merrin as she works on the lock. "We don't know what kind of traps might have been triggered."
I keep my eyes fixed on the pulsating runes, feeling a sense of unease wash over me. The dark energy emanating from them is unlike anything I've encountered before, and it makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. As Merrin finally manages to bypass the defenses and the door creaks open, I tense, ready for anything that might come rushing out. But there's only silence and darkness. I turn to Elric, who is watching us with a knowing smirk. "Your map was a bust," I growl at him. "What else aren't you telling us?"
But he just shrugs, his eyes gleaming with malice. "You wanted a map, I gave you a map. What happens beyond those doors is on you."
I feel a surge of anger at his words, but I push it down. We have a job to do, and I won't let my emotions get in the way of that. "Alright," I say to the party, my voice low. "Let's move out. But stay sharp, watch each other's backs, and keep your eyes peeled for anything that looks suspicious."
With that, I step into the darkness of the tower, my mace at the ready. Whatever horrors await us beyond this threshold, we'll face them together.
Fuck, not again! This is getting ridiculous! Jeane's voice drips with frustration as she tries to access the game's backend systems. I swear, if that fucking API goes down one more time today, I'm going to lose it! She paces back and forth in front of her desk, running her hands through her long white hair in agitation. The dim light from her computer screen casts eerie shadows across her face, accentuating the sharp angles of her cheekbones and the slight point of her chin. With a deep breath, Jeane tries to calm herself down. Okay, think logically. What are my options here? She pulls out her phone and opens up the Discord server for the game development team. Maybe someone else is having issues too? Or maybe it's just my setup again... Jeane starts typing furiously on her keyboard, trying different troubleshooting steps she's already gone through a dozen times before.
Fuck it! I'm just gonna roll with what I've got and hope for the best! She mutters under her breath as she returns to the role-play scene.
I take a deep breath to steady my nerves as I approach the ancient gate. The runes etched into the weathered stone seem to pulse with an otherworldly energy, and I can't shake the feeling that we're being watched. Elric's map feels woefully inadequate in my hands, but it's too late to turn back now. I step forward cautiously, examining the complex locking mechanism on the gate. My fingers work nimbly, picking at the intricate mechanisms until there's a satisfying click. With a final twist of the lock, the gate swings open, revealing a yawning chasm of darkness beyond. I take one last look at my companions, their faces etched with equal parts fear and determination. "Stay sharp, watch each other's backs, and keep your eyes peeled for anything that looks suspicious," I warn them as I step across the threshold into the unknown. The air inside is thick with the musty scent of ancient stone and decay. My heart pounds in my chest as we make our way deeper into the tower, each footstep echoing ominously off the walls. I can feel the weight of centuries pressing down upon us, and I know that whatever lies ahead, it will test us all to our limits. But there's no going back now. The Time-Splitting Sword awaits, and with it, the answers we seek. I grip my lockpicks tightly, ready for whatever challenges may lie ahead, and press on into the darkness.
Seraphine's sharp gaze is fixed on the pulsating runes etched into the ancient stone of the tower gate as Merrin works to pick the lock. A shiver of unease traces its way down her spine at the way the symbols seem to writhe and shift in the dim light. It feels like they are watching us, she thinks, her fingers unconsciously tracing the intricate pattern of her own protective wards.
She takes a step back from the threshold, her heart pounding in her chest as she tries to calm herself with deep breaths. Her mind races, trying to recall every bit of lore she knows about such ancient magical seals. These are no mere decorations; they’re a warning system, perhaps even an active trap.
Her eyes dart around the small clearing outside the tower entrance, searching for any other signs of danger. The trees seem to whisper secrets that the wind cannot carry, their leaves rustling in a way that sounds almost like mocking laughter. She feels a sudden, overwhelming desire to turn back, to escape this place and its eerie power.
