Phase: converging

The obsidian guardian’s form shimmered, its core pulsing with an energy that seemed to draw Halie’s holy symbol towards it. The silver artifact began to glow, its light spilling across the chamber floor in a warm, inviting pool that starkly contrasted the cold stone and ancient shadows.
Seraphine felt a chill run down her spine as the creature spoke of them as potential sacrifices, its words echoing through the cold air of the chamber. She found herself glancing around at her companions—Halie’s eyes wide with both fear and fascination, Varrika’s hand tight on her mace hilt, Merrin’s expression unreadable but his stance tense.
The guardian’s gaze shifted suddenly to the partially open door, its eyes flashing with an intense, predatory focus. A low growl emanated from beyond the threshold, causing everyone present to tense further. The air seemed to thicken with anticipation—or perhaps warning.
Jeane stepped forward, her voice soft but steady as she addressed the obsidian creature. “What do you mean, a test of faith? Surely there are other ways we can prove our worth besides...” She trailed off, glancing meaningfully at Halie’s glowing symbol.
Varrika’s grip on her mace tightened fractionally more, her scarred knuckles whitening slightly. “Speak plainly, creature,” she growled, her dwarf accent thickening with barely contained anger and fear. “What is it you truly desire from us?”
The chamber seemed to hold its breath as the guardian considered their words, its form shifting subtly in the flickering torchlight.
