The ancient stone groans around them, the air thick with an energy that makes Seraphine's skin crawl. She feels the arcane power like a physical weight pressing down on her chest, each breath becoming harder than the last. The entity before them seems to shift, its form wavering between solid and insubstantial as Halie raises her holy symbol high.

"Wait!" Seraphine hisses, her voice barely more than a whisper. "Don't just charge in there like Jeane would." She turns to Merrin, her eyes wide with fear but sharp with calculation. "This thing... it's not natural. The magic around it feels old, ancient even. We need to be careful."

Halie nods, her grip tightening on the silver symbol. "I know," she says, her voice trembling slightly. "But we can't just stand here either. Whatever's down there... it's getting louder." She takes a deep breath, steeling herself. "Let me try something first. A prayer, maybe. Something to ward off whatever's coming."

Seraphine feels a surge of relief when Halie suggests a more cautious approach. At least someone here understands the dangers of messing with ancient magic without proper preparation. She watches as the cleric raises her holy symbol, the soft glow barely making a dent in the oppressive darkness.

"Wait," she says again, louder this time. "Let me try something too." She closes her eyes, focusing on the arcane energies swirling around them. If she can just pinpoint the source of this power...

The air crackles with energy as Seraphine begins to weave a spell, her fingers tracing intricate patterns in the air. The ancient runes on the walls seem to pulse in response, their geometric patterns writhing as if alive.

"Hmm," she murmurs, more to herself than anyone else. "Interesting. There's... something familiar about this magic. Like I've seen it before, but not quite right." She opens her eyes, turning to face the others. "Whatever that thing is down there, it's tied to this tower somehow. And if we're going to deal with it, we need to understand what we're up against first."

Halie nods slowly, her expression a mix of relief and concern. "Alright," she says. "But be quick. Whatever's making those sounds... I don't think it likes us being here." She glances nervously at the partially open door, where shadows seem to writhe just beyond the torchlight.

Seraphine feels a shiver run down her spine but pushes it aside. Now is not the time for fear. She takes a deep breath, centering herself and focusing on the arcane energies around them.

"Okay," she says finally, her voice steadier than she feels. "I think I can sense something. There's... a connection between this entity and the tower itself. Like it's anchored here somehow." Her eyes widen as another realization hits her. "Wait. If that's true, then maybe we can use that against it. Find a way to break the connection..."

Halie's eyes light up with renewed hope. "That could work," she says excitedly. "If we can separate it from the tower, maybe it won't be as powerful." She pauses, her excitement dimming slightly. "But how do we do that? And more importantly, what if breaking the connection just unleashes something even worse?"

Seraphine opens her mouth to respond but is cut off by a sudden, loud CRACK from below. The very stones of the tower seem to shake, and a cold wind rushes up the stairs towards them.

"Whatever we're going to do," she gasps, stumbling back slightly, "we need to do it fast."
