Phase: converging

The creature's gaze bores into me like a physical weight, and I feel an unsettling chill crawl down my spine. Its eyes seem to glint with an otherworldly intelligence, studying me as if I'm some kind of specimen—as if it can see right through the layers of demonic allure and dark magic that cloak my true nature. I don't trust this thing. I don't trust anything in this damned tower. But Merrin's question hangs in the air between us, and I know we need to make a decision fast.
The whispers from below grow louder, more insistent—a chorus of voices just beyond hearing, each one grating against my nerves like nails on slate. The ancient carvings on the walls seem to pulse with a faint, malevolent light now, their geometric patterns writhing as if alive.
I turn back to Merrin and Seraphine, my expression grim. "We need to move fast. Whatever this thing is, it's not natural—and I don't think it's alone." The air crackles with an energy I can feel deep in my bones—arcane power, old and wild. My fingers twitch at my sides, itching to weave a spell, but I hold myself back. This is no ordinary beast; this is something born of dark magic, a guardian or a lure, perhaps both.
I crouch at the edge of the pit again, peering down into the darkness with narrowed eyes. The whispers seem to be coming from deeper within the tower now—echoes carried up through the stone and earth like water finding its way through cracks in rock. "Varrika!" I call out, my voice barely louder than a whisper. "Merrin! Seraphine! Anyone down there?!"
The creature doesn't move, its gaze still fixed on me with unnerving intensity. A low growl rumbles deep in its chest—a sound that seems to vibrate through the very stone at our feet.
I straighten up slowly, my hand resting casually on the hilt of my dagger as I face the thing fully. "You're not getting past us," I say, my voice carrying a touch more confidence than I feel. The demonic heritage that runs through my veins flares hot for a moment, and I know my eyes have shifted to their true crimson hue. Let it see what it's dealing with.
But the creature doesn't react beyond that low growl continuing unabated. It seems... patient. Waiting. And that scares me more than any sudden attack could.
I glance back at Merrin and Seraphine, my expression tight. "We need to find another way out of here—fast. Before whatever's down there decides to join the party."
