Merrin crouched low, her wiry frame coiled like a spring as she helped Varikka balance against the wall. The dwarf woman's face was contorted in pain, her scarred features set in a grimace as she shifted her weight gingerly onto her good foot. Water dripped from her soaked armor, splashing onto the stone floor with rhythmic persistence.

The air inside the chamber felt heavy, thick with dust and the oppressive weight of impending doom. Every creak of the ancient stones above them sent a fresh jolt of fear through Merrin's exhausted body. She clutched the Time-Splitting Sword tightly, its alien energy pulsing in her hands like a living thing.

"We need to find higher ground," Merrin said urgently, her dark eyes scanning the chamber for any alternative. "The water's already halfway up my boots." The rising liquid lapped at the rubble around them, seeping through cracks in the stone floor with alarming speed.

Varikka shook her head, her short hair clinging to her scalp with sweat and water. "I can barely stand, let alone climb," she ground out through clenched teeth. "Unless you've got a spell that'll magically heal sprained ankles, we're trapped here."

Merrin's gaze fell to the sword in her hands, its surface swirling with impossible geometries. An idea sparked in her mind, dangerous and desperate. "What if... what if I could use this?" She held up the Time-Splitting Sword, its blade flickering with otherworldly light. "If I can manipulate time around us, maybe I could freeze the water or slow down the collapse."

Varikka's expression was skeptical, but her eyes followed the sword's movements with grudging interest. "And if it goes wrong? We could end up trapped in a moment forever, or worse." She shifted her weight again, hissing as pain shot through her ankle.

"But doing nothing is certain death," Merrin countered, her voice tight with barely contained panic. The water was already lapping at their calves now, cold and relentless. "I have to try something."

Varikka met Merrin's gaze, a silent exchange passing between them. She nodded once, sharply. "Do it. But be ready to drop the damn thing if it starts doing anything weird."
