The sound of rushing water grew louder still as more liquid poured in from unseen sources deep within the collapsing tower's foundation. Merrin waded through the waist-deep fluid, her eyes fixed on the source of the noise ahead. The tunnel opened into a massive chamber with a colossal underground lake stretching out before them, its surface glowing with bioluminescent light. Skeletons lined the shores, and a massive tentacle emerged from the depths, thrashing about as if searching for prey. "Varikka!" Merrin screamed, her voice echoing off the walls. She waded forward frantically as the water rose rapidly to her thighs. The heavy iron bar felt like dead weight now, useless against the unknown horrors lurking below.

The icy liquid continued to climb her legs, now reaching mid-thigh and showing no signs of slowing.

"Varikka!" Merrin called out again, her voice cracking with fear and desperation. She knew her friend was still down there somewhere, possibly injured or worse after being pulled under by the tentacled horror. The thought of abandoning Seraphine above weighed heavily on her conscience, but she couldn't "
