The chamber shuddered violently, the very stone groaning in protest as it began its slow, inexorable collapse. Varrika's scarred hands clawed at empty air where her mace had slipped away yet again, clattering uselessly onto the shifting ground below. The Figure in Shimmering Light remained motionless across the narrowing gap, its burning eyes fixed unnervingly on them both. It hadn't moved, hadn't reacted to the collapsing chamber or Merrin's crossbow aimed directly at it. That unnatural stillness was more unsettling than any threat it might pose.

Merrin shifted her weight nervously, trying to maintain balance as the ledge bucked beneath her boots. "Varrika, we need to move!" she shouted over the rumbling noise, her voice tight with anxiety. The ground was shaking violently now, and she could feel the entire structure giving way around them. We have to get out of here, and fast.

She took a step forward, crossbow trained on the Figure ahead, heart pounding in her chest. Varrika fought for grip on the crumbling stone, muscles straining as another violent tremor wracked the chamber. The Figure's gaze remained fixed on her, and she knew they couldn't afford to linger here much longer.

As Merrin moved forward, Varrika felt a strong arm wrap around her waist, pulling her close. "I've got you! Stay with me!" Merrin shouted, her voice steady despite the chaos around them. The dwarf woman clung to her friend, grateful for the support as they stumbled across the crumbling ledge.

The Figure took another step closer, its movements fluid and unnatural. It raised one hand, and suddenly the air between them shimmered and warped, a portal opening in space itself. A dark void yawned before them, filled with swirling shadows that seemed to reach out hungrily.

Merrin hesitated for only a second before dragging Varrika through the portal, both women tumbling into the darkness beyond. The last thing they heard was the sound of the chamber collapsing completely behind them, the rumble growing distant as they fell into the unknown depths of whatever lay ahead.
