Phase: converging

As the stormy night deepened its grip on Gravehill, Sister Hale stood at the threshold of the abandoned church, her eyes fixed on the dark recesses within. The weight of consecrated ground seemed to press down on her shoulders, a constant reminder of the sacred duty that lay before her. Silra, meanwhile, worked to pry open a hidden compartment, her fingers moving with practiced ease despite the danger lurking beneath their feet.
Sister Hale's voice cut through the silence, sharp and commanding: "Stop it!" Her words were laced with urgency, born from the weight of consecrated ground that seemed to press down on her shoulders. Silra's eyes flickered toward Sister Hale, a glimmer of understanding passing between them as they shared a moment of mutual concern. The air was thick with unspoken questions: what lay beneath their feet, and how would they escape?
The stone floor shudders again, rope creaking like a hangman's noose testing weight. Something shifts beneath us—old wood groaning, stone grinding against stone. Sister Hale's unholy symbol pulses light that makes her face look gaunt and spectral. I don't think our guest downstairs is waiting for an invitation. I work the prybar harder into the seam, muscles straining, stone dust filling my nostrils. The floorboards aren't just shifting—they're trying to open. Whatever sleeps beneath us is not sleeping anymore. We can't wait here for city guard or whatever else might crawl out of these walls.
With a decisive motion, Sister Hale grips Silra's shoulder—her fingers tight with urgency—We can't stay here! The symbol on my palm burns brighter now, as if in response to her words. I glance down at the glowing artifact, its light revealing shadows that writhe like living things.
