The tower's magic is active, predatory, and dangerous—triggering its defenses could mean instant death or worse. The party stands at the base, tired but alert, weighing the risks of immediate entry versus waiting for dawn with unknown consequences.

Varrika hefts her mace, eyes narrowed as she scans the crumbling facade. The runes etched into the stone seem to pulse with a predatory hunger, and she feels the hair on the back of her neck stand up. "These wards aren't just barriers," she growls, "they're feeding on something inside those walls. And whatever it is, it's not going to let us w...

Jeane circles the perimeter with her arcane sight extended, tracking the dark energy pulses that radiate like sick veins through ancient masonry. Each ward signature she maps glows with a parasitic light, drawing power from something inside those walls. "These aren't mere defenses, sisters," she hisses, her crimson eyes reflecting the ward's hungry glow. "We're dealing with something that feeds on intrusion itself."

Merrin circles the perimeter, her halfling eyes keen for any sign of traps or wards. The stone seems to thrum beneath her fingers, pulsing with dark energy. She mutters under her breath, "Hungry as a dragon, this place is. We best tread careful." She marks each ward with a scrap of parchment, mapping their signatures in her mind's eye. This ain't no ordinary tower, girls.

Seraphine pulls out her notes on the tower's arcane history, flipping through pages covered in meticulous scribbling. The air here feels thick, heavy with an ancient power that makes her skin crawl. "The library scrolls spoke of this place as a 'tower of hungry stone'," she murmurs, more to herself than anyone else. "They said its very walls draw life and magic from anything that enters without proper... precautions."

The shared realization hangs heavy: the tower is not just guarded—it's alive in some twisted sense, feeding on the arcane energy of intruders. And they stand at the threshold of a creature that might consume them before they even reach the sword they seek.

Varrika's grip tightens on her mace. "We need to find a way past these wards without triggering their... appetite." Her voice is low and determined.

Jeane nods, her wings shifting restlessly behind her. "I can try to map the ward signatures more thoroughly, but we're playing with fire here. One wrong step could feed us straight into whatever's waiting inside."

Merrin finishes marking another ward point and looks up at the tower looming above them. "Aye, and I'd rather not end up as this thing's midnight snack. But we can't just stand here either—sun'll be up soon, and who knows what daylight does to a hungry stone monster." She grins, but it doesn't quite reach her eyes.

Seraphine tucks her notes away, her expression grave. "The scrolls mentioned a back entrance that might bypass the main wards, but it was... unstable. Collapsing masonry, structural weaknesses..." She trails off, clearly torn between the potential advantage and the obvious risks.

The group falls silent for a moment, the weight of their decision pressing down. The tower looms above them, its hunger palpable in the air, waiting for them to choose their path—forward into the maw of the beast or back to the relative safety of the night-shrouded forest.

Varrika breaks the silence. "We've come this far for that sword. I say we find this back entrance Seraphine mentioned and take our chances with the unstable masonry rather than walking straight into the wards' feeding ground." Her voice is steady, but her eyes betray a flicker of apprehension.

Jeane nods slowly, her expression thoughtful. "Agreed. We need to stay mobile, avoid prolonged exposure to the main ward system. If we can slip in through a less... active area..." She doesn't finish the sentence, leaving the implications hanging in the air.

Merrin scratches behind one pointed ear, considering. "Back entrance it is then. But we go in slow and careful—no heroics, no rushing blindly into collapsed tunnels." She looks at Seraphine. "You lead the way, scholar-girl. Your knowledge is our best guide here."

Seraphine takes a deep breath, squaring her shoulders. "Very well. Follow me closely. The scrolls indicated the back entrance should be... there." She points to a section of the tower wall that looks particularly weathered and unstable. "But remember, sisters—this entire structure is a trap waiting to spring. One wrong step could bring the whole thing down on us."

With grim determination, the party begins to move towards the crumbling section of the wall, the tower's hungry magic pulsing around them like a malevolent heartbeat. The real adventure begins now, deep within the belly of the beast they've chosen to confront.

Round 9 ends with the party deciding to bypass the main wards by entering through a potentially unstable back entrance, aware that every step forward increases their risk.
