The tower's magic pulses stronger as the skeleton horde grows. The ward feeds on their fear and exertion. Jeane maintains her magical shield while casting slow spells to hold back the tide of undead. "Stay close!" she shouts to Merrin and Varrika as more skeletons pour from side corridors. "We can't keep this up forever!"

Varrika swings her massive warhammer, crushing skulls but unable to halt their relentless advance. The things just keep coming, driven by something ancient and hungry. She grunts with each impact against her armor, the blows denting her pauldron but not breaking through. "Not without bringing the whole tower down!" she growls, using her superior strength to hurl attackers off balance before smashing them apart.

Merrin fires her crossbow again and again, dropping skeletons with precision shots to their skulls—but more fill the gaps immediately. The ward pulses stronger still, feeding on their panic and exertion. She backs toward Jeane's protective barrier, reloading frantically between shots. "There's too many!" she yells over the clatter of bone and metal. "We can't hold them back!"

Jeane grits her teeth, maintaining the shield while casting another slow spell to buy seconds. The magic crackles around them, pushing back against the ancient corruption that saturates the air. "I know!" she shouts back. "We need an exit or a collapse—fast!" Her wings shift restlessly behind her as the magic pulses intensify.

The corridor echoes with the sounds of battle as the party fights desperately to survive. The tower's ancient power feeds on their fear and exhaustion, growing stronger with each passing moment. They can't keep this up much longer—the skeletons are too numerous, their power too great. Desperation fuels their movements as they search for a way out or a miracle.

The magic pulses again, stronger than ever. Jeane's shield wavers under the strain as more undead surge forward. Varrika swings her warhammer with desperate strength, each blow connecting but failing to thin the endless ranks. Merrin fires, drops one, fires again, drops another—but the horde simply shifts around the fallen bodies and presses forward.

"This is it!" Merrin screams, firing her last bolt into a skull that was inches from Varrika's face before the crossbow clicks empty. She scrambles backward toward Jeane's barrier, hands shaking as she fumbles for more bolts. The skeletons are almost upon them now, their bone-white fingers reaching out...

Jeane maintains the shield with grim determination, her magic crackling around them in defiance of the tower's corruption. "We end this NOW!" she shouts, casting a massive area slow spell that engulfs the entire corridor. The skeletons' movements drag as if through thick honey—but it won't hold forever.

Varrika raises her warhammer for one last desperate strike, aiming at what looks like the lead skeleton's chest. If she can just take out their commander... She brings the weapon down with every ounce of strength, the impact shattering bone and sending fragments spraying outward.

The lead skeleton staggers backward from the blow, its chest caved in and ribcage shattered. For a moment, the horde pauses—uncertain without their apparent leader. Jeane seizes the opportunity, casting a targeted spell that collapses the entire corridor behind the leading skeletons.

Dust and debris rain down as the passage collapses inward with a thunderous roar. The remaining skeletons are swallowed by rubble, their bone fragments scattering across the floor. The ward pulses once more, weaker this time—starved of fresh undead to feed upon—as the magic struggles to maintain its purpose without active guardians to animate.

Jeane lowers her shield, panting heavily as the dust settles. "That... was too close," she gasps, her wings drooping with exhaustion. Varrika leans against the wall, her warhammer hanging limply in her hands. Merrin emerges from behind Jeane's barrier, crossbow still raised but now empty.

"We can't stay here," Merrin says grimly, scanning the rubble-choked corridor ahead. "The magic will find more bodies to animate eventually." She slides another bolt into her weapon with practiced ease.

Jeane nods wearily. "Agreed. We need to find a way past this section before the tower recovers and sends more... guests." Her eyes glint with renewed determination despite obvious fatigue.

Varrika grunts as she straightens up, warhammer rising again. "Let's move," she growls. "Before I lose my nerve or these bones decide they're not quite dead after all."

The three women exchange grim nods and set off down the corridor, moving faster now that the immediate threat has passed—though none of them fail to notice how the tower's magic pulses hungrily in their wake...
