Phase: converging

The ancient stone gate loomed before them, its surface crawling with intricate runes that seemed to writhe with dark energy. Merrin approached cautiously, her halfling fingers hovering just above the surface before she thought better of it and pulled back. "This thing's alive," she muttered, more to herself than anyone else. "Hungry somehow." Her hand instinctively went for her hammer, but something stayed her motion—a sense that iron might be a very bad idea here.
Jeane circled the entrance with predatory grace, her tall frame tense as she studied the patterns. The succubus's crimson eyes gleamed in the dim light, and her dark leathery wings lay flat against her back. "This is no ordinary ward—it feels alive, hungry somehow," she said softly, her voice barely above a whisper. "The runes pulse in a pattern that suggests they draw power from ambient magic. Merrin's iron tools likely triggered a sensitivity response, not an immediate trap activation."
Halie stepped forward, her expression stern and focused. The weary human woman pulled out a small notebook and began sketching the runes with quick, precise movements. "I'll document these," she said, her blue-grey eyes never leaving the stone surface. "Something's feeding on magic here. Merrin, put away your tools before you trigger more traps. Seraphine, back off from the wards, they're reacting to arcane energy. This thing isn't just ancient, it's... aware." She paused, a shiver running down her spine. "I'm going to cast Protection from Evil on everyone, and then we need to decide if we're dealing with this or walking away."
