10 paragraphs. Starts with: The stone gate loomed before them, ancient and forbidding, its surface covered in runes that seemed to writhe with dark energy. Merrin approached cautiously, her halfling fingers hovering just above the surface before she thought better of it and pulled back. "This thing's alive," she muttered, more to herself than anyone else. "Hungry somehow." Her hand instinctively went for her hammer, but something stayed her motion—a sense that iron might be a very bad idea here.

Jeane circled the entrance with predatory grace, her tall frame tense as she studied the patterns. The succubus's crimson eyes gleamed in the dim light, and her dark leathery wings lay flat against her back—an instinctive defensive posture. "The magic is alive," she said softly, her voice barely carrying over the wind through the trees. "Watching us." She gestured sharply for Merrin to stand back. "Put those iron tools away before you set off something we can't stop."

Merrin complied with a soft click of metal on leather, the runes seeming to pulse more hungrily as she withdrew her touch. "Alright, alright," she muttered, taking a full step back. "We'll do this your way for now, but I'm not leaving empty-handed if there's loot inside." The thought of ancient treasures waiting beyond that gate made her fingers twitch with anticipation, even as her survival instincts screamed caution.

Seraphine hovered near the rear, her delicate hands weaving arcane patterns that seemed to dissipate before fully forming. "This ward is... complex," she said, her voice barely more than a whisper. "The magic feels wrong—it's not like anything I've encountered before." She glanced nervously at the pulsing runes. "We should approach with extreme caution and document everything before attempting entry."

Halie knelt near the gate's edge, her holy symbol held ready as she began sketching the runes in careful detail. "I can feel it too," she said softly. "This magic has a hunger—it wants to consume arcane energy specifically." The more we throw at it, the stronger it gets." She paused, looking up at Jeane and Merrin. "We need to understand its structure before attempting any kind of disablement or bypass."

Varrika moved into a defensive stance between Halie and the gate, her heavy mace ready, eyes scanning the surrounding darkness for movement. If anything comes through that door, I'll handle it," she growled. "You two focus on mapping and documenting." No heroics—we stick together and move as one unit."

The runes on the gate pulsed again, their dark energy seeming to intensify briefly as if responding to the increased magical activity around them. A low groan echoed from within the tower, like stone shifting under immense weight. Something was moving inside—the footsteps they'd heard earlier were closer now. The party exchanged tense glances, knowing they'd reached a critical juncture. The treasure awaited beyond that gate, but at what cost?
