Seraphine moved closer to examine the ancient gate's runes, her sharp eyes scanning every detail of the intricate patterns etched into the stone. The air here was thick with residual magic, almost tangible in its intensity. She pressed her fingertips against one of the cold, intricate symbols, feeling its edges wear smooth under her touch.

A faint chill runs through me, she thought, as if the magic trapped within is testing my resolve. This is no ordinary lock. Her mind raced through theories on how they functioned—They seem... responsive. She traced her fingers along several adjacent symbols, feeling the subtle shifts in energy between them. "Interesting," she murmured, more to herself than anyone else. "These aren't just decorative. They're part of some kind of magical mechanism." She traced her fingers along several adjacent symbols, feeling the subtle shifts in energy between them. "The question is whether it's a trap or a puzzle... or both."

Merrin circled the gate slowly, her rogue's eyes scanning every inch for potential weaknesses or hidden mechanisms. There was no doubt in her mind that these markings were special—likely part of some kind of locking mechanism. But what sort of lock could possibly keep secrets for so long?

This isn't going to be simple, she mused, running a hand through her short dark hair. Probably involves more than just brute force. She found herself noticing how the air seemed to crackle with an almost visible energy, like static before a storm.

"Seraphine," she called over her shoulder, her voice hushed despite the tension in her body. "Come take a look at this. If anyone can make sense of these runes, it's you." As the wizard approached, Merrin felt a strange unease settle over her—this place felt wrong on a level she couldn't quite put her finger on.

Jeane stepped between Halie and the gate, her crimson eyes scanning the intricate patterns etched into the stone. She traced one rune with a gloved finger, feeling its cold power pulse against her skin. Doubt gnawed at her—was Elric truly concerned for their safety or simply too terrified to face what lay beyond? The thought sent an unfamiliar chill down her spine as she glanced at Varrika, noting the barely contained hunger in the demoness's eyes.

Halie moved to stand beside Jeane, gripping her heavy mace with white-knuckled determination. The young cleric's silver holy symbol caught what little moonlight filtered through the canopy above, gleaming like a tiny star against her chest. "We cannot turn back now," she said, her voice steady despite the fear that gripped her heart. "The Time-Splitting Sword is too important to abandon our quest."

Jeane felt a flicker of pride at Halie's courage—she was right, of course. They'd come too far to give up now. But that didn't mean they were walking blindly into danger.

"Wait," she said, stepping between Halie and the gate. "Let Seraphine examine it first. If there are traps, we need to know what they are before we trigger them." She turned to the elf wizard, her expression serious. "What do you think? Can you decipher these runes?"
