As Seraphine selects a rune on the puzzle lock, it begins to glow with an ethereal light, and the air around her seems to vibrate with magical energy. The group watches in unison as the runes on the gate react to Seraphine's actions. The gate's mechanism clicks into place, releasing a low hum of power that resonates through the air. With a soft creak, the ancient stone gate slowly swings open, revealing a dimly lit interior that seems to swallow the light from the outside world. The group steps cautiously forward, their eyes adjusting to the darkness within. The interior of the tower is musty and decaying, with cobwebs clinging to the walls and a thick layer of dust coating everything. A chill runs down Jeane's spine as she senses the weight of centuries of dark magic bearing down upon them. The air inside is heavy with the scent of decay and corruption. As they step deeper into the tower, they notice that the walls are adorned with ancient tapestries, depicting scenes of great battles and powerful magic. However, these images seem to be more than just decorative - they appear to be warning of the dangers that lie within the tower. The group finds themselves standing at the entrance of a narrow corridor, leading deep into the heart of the tower. The darkness ahead seems to pulse with an otherworldly energy, and Seraphine's determination is clear in her voice as she says, "We'll need to proceed with caution. We don't know what we'll find in there."

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

Jeane traced one of the rune symbols etched into the stone, her fingers lingering on its surface as she felt the faint pulse of magic within it. The air here was thick with residual energy, almost like a tangible weight pressing against her skin. Elric's warning about the barrier had already raised her suspicions—she wasn't about to blindly trust any local claiming ignorance about such an obviously dangerous place. As for these 'phantom caresses' he mentioned… well, she'd felt them too, though she certainly wasn't going to admit it aloud. Probably just some leftover enchantment from the tower's dark past. She fixed Elric with a penetrating stare, her expression unreadable. "You speak of dangers as if we haven't faced them before. What do you know that the map doesn't tell us? What is this 'barrier' supposed to be, exactly?" Her tone was cool, almost conversational, but there was an underlying current of steel in her words—a warning that she expected honest answers. Her companions shifted restlessly behind her, their own apprehension palpable. Jeane's eyes swept over them, lingering particularly on Merrin and Seraphine. "Merrin, Seraphine—make sense of these runes if you can. Varrika, Halie—be ready for anything that might emerge once we breach this seal." She turned back to Elric, her gaze hardening. "And as for you, hermit… speak plainly. We don't have time for vague warnings or half-truths."

The ancient stone gate loomed before them, its surface covered in intricate carvings that seemed to shift and writhe when viewed from certain angles. Jeane couldn't shake the feeling that they were being watched—by something more than just Elric's prying eyes. But there was no turning back now. The Time-Splitting Sword awaited within these cursed walls, and she would have it, no matter what dangers lay ahead. "Everyone stay close," she commanded, her voice barely above a whisper but carrying an authority that brooked no argument. "And keep your weapons handy. We move on my signal."

Merrin

Merrin · Rogue

I step up to the ancient gate, my eyes narrowed as I examine the intricate runes etched into its surface. There's no doubt in my mind that these markings are special, likely part of some kind of locking mechanism. But what sort of lock could possibly keep secrets for so long? "Seraphine, come take a look at this," I call over my shoulder, my voice hushed. "If anyone can make sense of these runes, it's you."

As the wizard approaches, I find myself noticing how the air seems to crackle with an almost palpable energy. It's like the very atmosphere is charged with some kind of dark magic, and I can't shake the feeling that we're on the precipice of something truly dangerous. But we've come this far, and I'm not about to turn back now. Whatever secrets lie beyond this gate, whatever traps or terrors await us inside - we'll face them together. The Time-Splitting Sword is too valuable a prize to leave empty-handed. I glance at my companions, seeing the same mix of apprehension and determination on their faces. We're all tired from the journey, but there's no time for rest now. We need to be alert, watch each other's backs, and trust our instincts above all else. With a deep breath, I turn back to the gate and begin to examine the runes more closely, my eyes scanning every inch of the ancient stonework. The puzzle lock may be tricky, but I have a feeling that Merrin's skills will come in handy here. "Alright, let's see what we're dealing with," I murmur, running my fingers along the edges of the gate. "Keep your weapons ready and your wits about you. We don't know what we might find on the other side."

And with that, I begin to work the mechanism, my mind focused on unlocking the secrets of this mysterious tower and the power that lies within.

Seraphine

Seraphine · Wizard

I press my fingertips against one of the cold, intricate runes etched into the ancient stone gate, feeling its edges wear smooth under my touch. A faint chill runs through me, as if the magic trapped within is testing my resolve. This is no ordinary lock, I think to myself, my mind already racing through theories on how they function. They seem... responsive.
My gaze sweeps over the complex pattern of runes, each one different from the last, like a cryptic language waiting for the correct key. The air around the gate shimmers slightly, an almost imperceptible distortion that suggests a barrier of pure magical force. It hums against my skin, a low thrum that seems to resonate in my bones. I call out to Merrin over my shoulder, my voice barely above a murmur, so as not to disturb the delicate balance of the barrier. "Merrin, come look at these runes. They’re special." My heart beats faster as I trace another symbol with a single finger, a wave of goosebumps rising on my arms. The magic here is ancient, raw, and powerful beyond measure.
