The air inside the tower grew colder with each step deeper within, a palpable chill that seemed to seep into the very bones of those who dared tread upon its ancient stones. The walls themselves felt alive in a way no mere construction should be, pulsing faintly with an ominous rhythm that sent shivers down the spines of even the bravest among them. Varrika, her scarred hands gripping her heavy mace with white-knuckled tension, exchanged a meaningful glance with Halie. The cleric's face was etched with concern, her spiritual senses screaming warnings that only she could hear.

Merrin paused on the threshold of the crumbling staircase, her curiosity warring with the instinct for self-preservation that had kept her alive through countless dangers. Jeane's voice cut through the oppressive silence like a blade, sharp and urgent: "Get away from there now before whatever's down there finishes collapsing the structure around us." The succubus sorcerer's crimson eyes glowed faintly in the gloom, her own magic senses extended to probe the depths below.

Halie moved closer to Merrin, her hand coming to rest on the human's shoulder—a gesture of concern as much as caution. "That staircase feels wrong," she murmured, her voice barely audible above the faint hum that seemed to emanate from deep within the tower's core. "The wood is... breathing." She raised her silver holy symbol, the metal catching what little light filtered down from above. "Let me cast Light on the walls—at least we'll see any traps before we stumble into them."

The group stood poised at the edge of the unknown, each member acutely aware that their journey had just entered its most perilous phase. The air grew heavier still, thick with the scent of decay and something older, more malevolent—a palpable wrongness that made the very act of breathing feel like an intrusion upon sacred ground.
