The air grew colder with each step down the narrow staircase, the stone walls seeming to pulse faintly with an ominous rhythm. Merrin's descent was halted abruptly when a section of the stairs gave way beneath her feet, sending her tumbling downward in a cascade of stone chips and dust. She managed to catch herself on a lower ledge, but the fall left her winded and clutching the intricate key that had opened the door above.

Seraphine stood at the threshold of the chamber, her elven senses already screaming warnings. The air here was thick with decay and something older, more malevolent—a palpable wrongness that made her skin crawl. A faint humming sound filled the space, like the buzz of a thousand trapped flies, emanating from strange crystals embedded in the floor. They pulsed with an intense, unnatural green light that seemed to resonate through the very stone itself.

Jeane spoke up, her voice tight with apprehension. "I don't like this at all. The corruption here is ancient and powerful—stronger than I've felt in years. Those sigils on the floor aren't just decorative. They're holding something back." She turned to Merrin, her crimson eyes flashing in the dim light. "Merrin, get away from that staircase now. Halie's right—the stones are screaming. We need to find another way up or around this tower. There has to be an alternative route that avoids whatever's in that chamber."

Halie stepped forward, her blue-grey eyes wide with fear but her jaw set in determination. "Merrin is my closest friend and the party's scout—if she descends those stairs, whatever waits below will have her." She glanced at Seraphine, seeing her own apprehension reflected in the wizard's sharp gaze. "But if this magic is truly a prison like you say... what if we're about to unleash something ancient and terrible?"

The chanting sound grew louder, more insistent, and a faint red glow began to emanate from deeper within the tower. The very air seemed to press in around them, heavy with menace.
