Round 44 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

The tension in The base of a crumbling stone tower tightens for a beat as the interruption refuses to go away. Everyone is forced to stay quiet and choose their next move carefully.
I step forward, my heavy mace gripped tight in my scarred hands. "Hold," I bark at Merrin. The dwarf's ears perk up at my voice, and she pauses on the crumbling threshold. The air here is thick with an unnatural energy, a dark sorcery that sets my teeth on edge. I've faced horrors before, but this...this feels different. Ancient. Dangerous. I meet Halie's eyes, seeing my own unease reflected there. The cleric knows her business when it comes to the uncanny. If she says the stones are screaming, then I believe her. My gaze slides over to Jeane, the sorcerer looking haggard from whatever magic she's been working. Whatever she sensed down there, it couldn't be good. I take a deep breath, feeling the weight of my armor and weapons. We've come this far, and the goal is in sight. But charging in headlong would be the act of a fool. We need to go in smart, or we won't be coming back out at all. I turn to the party, my voice grave but steady. "Listen up. This tower...it's no ordinary ruin. Something foul lurks within, and it won't give up that sword easily. We stick together, watch each other's backs. Halie goes first - her faith will be our shield against whatever darkness we face."
I glance at the narrow stairway, a shiver running down my spine. "And for the love of the gods, be wary of anything that looks too good to be true. In a place like this, it likely is."
I can feel it too—the corruption seeping up from below. Those sigils aren't decorative; they're holding back something ancient and hungry. Merrin, get away from that staircase now before whatever's down there finishes collapsing the structure around us. We don't need to trigger a cave-in on top of whatever else is waiting down there. Halie's right—we should proceed with extreme caution. Seraphine, can you sense anything specific? Any magical currents or traps we should be aware of? I'll try to cast a detection spell again, but this time focusing on the structure itself. If there are hidden passages or safer routes around that corridor, I'd rather find them before we stumble into whatever's making those chanting sounds. Merrin, if you insist on being our scout, at least keep your distance from obviously unstable areas. And everyone—stay close together. We're stronger as a group than scattered targets for whatever's lurking in this gods-forsaken tower. This place feels... wrong. Like the very stones are whispering warnings we can't quite hear. I don't like it, but we came here for a reason. That sword isn't going to fly up to us just because we're feeling apprehensive.
Halie's skin prickled as she entered the tower's embrace. The stones here weren't just old—they screamed with silent anguish, vibrating against her palm like a plucked violin string. She stepped closer to Merrin, lowering her voice: "That staircase feels wrong. The wood is... breathing. We should find another way up." Her fingers tightened around the silver holy symbol hanging from its chain, the metal cool and grounding. "Let me cast Light on the walls—at least we'll see any traps before they spring."
