As Merrin begins her descent down the narrow stairway, the air grows colder and the eerie chanting sound intensifies. The faint red glow emanates from luminescent moss growing on the walls, casting an otherworldly light on the stairs. Suddenly, a section of the stairway gives way beneath Merrin's feet, and she tumbles down, her mace scraping against the stone. She manages to catch herself just in time, but the fall leaves her winded and her grip on the intricate key tightens. The chanting grows louder, and the glowing moss begins to pulse with an urgent rhythm. A hidden trap is triggered, causing the stairs to shudder and groan ominously. The group holds its collective breath as the stairs creak and sway, their footing precarious. With a final, jarring thud, the stairs stop at the bottom, revealing a dimly lit chamber filled with ancient artifacts and mysterious devices.

Seraphine

Seraphine · Wizard

I stand at the threshold of the ancient stone tower, my keen elven senses already prickling with warning as Merrin's key turns in the lock. The air here is thick and heavy, cloying with the scent of decay and something older, more malevolent. A faint humming, like the buzz of a thousand trapped flies, emanates from within, setting my teeth on edge.
My gaze sweeps over the chamber Merrin has just entered, taking in the strange crystals pulsing with an intense, unnatural light. They seem to be drawing power from somewhere deep beneath the earth, some dark source I dare not contemplate too closely. The hum grows louder as Merrin descends the narrow staircase, a low, throbbing pulse that vibrates through the soles of my boots and into my bones.
"Wait," I call out, my voice cutting through the oppressive silence with surprising clarity. Halie's hand on my shoulder is a welcome anchor in this place of shifting reality. "We must tread carefully here. This magic... it feels like a prison wearing a crown."
My fingers tighten around the handle of my heavy mace, a mundane tool against what may be an overwhelmingly magical threat. The thought of using my own arcane abilities chills me to the core. Too often, such power has been the source of great evil in this world.
The crystals pulse again, their light flashing red for a moment before returning to its eerie glow. A shiver runs down my spine as I realize Merrin is now deep within the tower's heart. The chanting grows louder still, an ancient, guttural sound that seems to burrow into my mind, threatening to unravel the very foundations of thought.
I take a step back from the threshold, my eyes fixed on the narrowing stairway. Whatever lies waiting for us down there, it is not something I am eager to face. Yet, the Time-Splitting Sword is our only hope against the rising tide of darkness that threatens the land. And so, with a deep breath steeling myself, I follow Merrin into the abyss.

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

I don't like this at all. The corruption here is ancient and powerful—stronger than I've felt in years. Those sigils on the floor aren't just decorative. They're holding something back. Merrin, get away from that staircase now. Halie's right—the stones are screaming. We need to find another way up or around this tower. There has to be an alternative route that avoids whatever's in that chamber. I'll cast a detection spell to find hidden passages before we stumble into anything else. I hold out my hand, focusing my will as the air around us begins to shimmer with arcane energy. The sigils on the floor pulse once, brighter than before, and I feel a cold dread seep into my bones. The magic here is fighting back already.

Halie

Halie · Cleric

I feel my heart pounding in my chest, the air so thick with wrongness I want to vomit. Every instinct screams at me to turn back, but we came too far for that. Merrin is my closest friend and the party's scout—if she descends those stairs, whatever waits below will have her. Seraphine's warning echoes in my mind, a wise caution. But if this magic is truly a prison like she says... what if we're about to unleash something ancient and terrible? "Merrin," I call out, stepping forward but stopping at the threshold. "Wait." My voice trembles only slightly. "The stones are screaming. This isn't just a crumbling tower—it's a wound in the world.". The silver cross in my hand feels heavy, inadequate against such power. I glance down the stairs, seeing nothing but shadows and the faint glow of... something unnatural. "Let me go first. At least let me have my shield ready."
