The air inside the tower is wrong—old decay mixed with something metallic and living that should not be present in a place like this. Seraphine stands at the entrance beside Halie, maintaining situational awareness for magical threats within the tower. The palpable malevolence in the air disturbs her deeply.

Jeane speaks first, her voice tight with controlled fear. "This is no mere undead magic." The runes seem to pulse faster in response to her presence, their hunger obvious even to her untrained eyes. "We need to f... Seraphine takes a hesitant step towards the shadowed corridor, her gaze fixed on the pulsating breathing symbols etched into the ancient stone. The air feels thick and oppressive, each breath an effort as if the very atmosphere is being consumed by some unseen presence. "These aren't just magical sigils," she murmurs, her...

The torches on the wall flicker wildly, casting eerie shadows across the stone floor. The countdown timer ticks down from 20 seconds, the sound echoing through the chamber like a heartbeat. The symbols begin to glow with an inner light, pulsing in rhythm with something unseen.

Varrika clenches her jaw as she surveys the ominous corridor, the pulsing symbols and unseen presence setting her nerves on edge. She turns to Halie, the cleric, her voice gravelly with concern. "Halie, can you sense what manner of corruption this is? What dark power could be feeding off this energy?" Varrika asks, her hand resting on the haft of her mace. "I don't like the feel of this. It's like the air itself is tainted." She glances at Jeane, the sorcerer, who seems both fascinated and...

"Wait," Seraphine says sharply, her voice cutting through the oppressive silence. "We need to understand what we're dealing with before we proceed. These symbols... they're not just decorative. They're feeding something." Her eyes narrow as she studies the glowing runes, fingers twitching at her side as if restraining an instinct to cast a spell.

Jeane's crimson gaze flicks between Seraphine and the corridor entrance, weighing the wizard's caution against her own growing certainty that this magic is dangerous beyond anything they've encountered before. The air here is thick with something—foul in a way she can't quite define, but undeniably wrong.

The timer ticks down to 15 seconds. The symbols' glow intensifies, pulsing faster now, and a low rumble begins deep within the stone walls—a sound like grinding teeth or shifting earth.

Varrika's grip tightens on her mace, muscles tensing as she prepares for whatever might emerge from the corridor. "Halie?" she growls, seeking confirmation of the cleric's earlier warning.

Halie stands frozen at Varrika's side, her eyes wide with fear and something else—reverence? The holy symbol in her hands seems to vibrate faintly, its surface warming against her palms. "It's not just dark magic," she breathes, voice barely audible over the grinding rumble. "There's... worship here. Ancient and powerful." Her gaze snaps to Jeane. "Get back! This isn't just a trap—it's a shrine!"

The timer hits 10 seconds. The symbols blaze with sudden, blinding intensity, and the rumble becomes a roar. Stone grates against stone somewhere deep within the corridor as something massive begins to move.

Jeane stumbles backward instinctively, wings spreading wide for balance as she backpedals away from the threshold. "Fuck! Everyone out—now!" Her voice cuts through the rising chaos, authority unmistakable even in her panic.

Seraphine doesn't need to be told twice. She's already moving, her long legs carrying her back towards the outer chamber at a sprint. "Move your asses!" she shouts over her shoulder, terror lending urgency to her usually calm voice.

Varrika hesitates for a split second, torn between following orders and covering the retreat. Then Halie grabs her arm, yanking hard, and she's running too, heavy boots pounding against stone as the rumble behind them grows to a thunderous roar.

The symbols explode outward in a shower of sparks as something massive—tentacled and writhing—emerges from the corridor. The air fills with the stench of decay and brimstone as it lunges forward, seeking flesh.

Jeane doesn't look back. She runs for the exit, wings beating uselessly against the stone walls as she scrambles to maintain her footing. Her mind races, already cataloging what she's seen—the sheer size of the thing, the unnatural way it moved, the impossible geometry of its form. This wasn't just a demon; this was something ancient and terrible, something that should have stayed buried.

The party bursts out into the night air just as the first tentacle whips past where Jeane's head had been moments before. She stumbles forward into Seraphine's arms, both of them collapsing to the ground in a tangle of limbs and panicked breaths.

Varrika skids to a halt beside them, mace raised and ready even though she knows it'll do little against whatever horror they've unleashed. "Everyone okay?" she barks, scanning the group for injuries.

Halie nods shakily, still clutching her holy symbol like a lifeline. "I'm fine," she manages, voice trembling. "What... what was that?"

Seraphine helps Jeane upright, her face pale but eyes sharp with analytical curiosity despite their near escape. "Whatever it was," she says, voice barely above a whisper, "it wasn't natural. Those symbols, the way they pulsed... I've never seen anything like it in all my studies."

Jeane brushes herself off, wings folding tight against her back as she tries to process what they've just encountered. "It's demonic," she says flatly. "But not... recent. Whatever that thing is, it's been down there for a long time." She meets Varrika's gaze, and the dwarf sees the fear beneath the sorcerer's usually unflappable exterior. "We need to talk about this. And we definitely need to find another way into this tower."

Varrika nods grimly, lowering her mace but keeping it close at hand. "Agreed. But first..." She glances back at the yawning corridor mouth, now dark and silent once more. "How do we seal that thing back inside?"
