Round 26 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As Jeane Cromwell takes a step closer to the shadowed corridor, her eyes fixed on the pulsating breathing symbols, Halie's gaze drifts to the party, her hands tightening around the hilt of her holy symbol. The air seems to vibrate with an otherworldly energy, making it difficult to focus. Suddenly, the torches on the wall flicker wildly, casting eerie shadows across the stone floor. The countdown timer ticks down from 20 seconds, the sound echoing through the chamber like a heartbeat. The symbols on the wall continue to draw in the unknown energy, their pulsating rhythm growing more frantic. A low, ominous growl reverberates through the corridor, making it clear that whatever lies within is not pleased with the party's presence. A cold breeze sweeps through the room, extinguishing the torches and plunging the area into darkness. The party is surrounded by an oppressive silence, broken only by the creaking of old stone and the countdown timer.
The dwarf clenches her jaw as she surveys the ominous corridor, the pulsing symbols and unseen presence setting her nerves on edge. She turns to Halie, the cleric, her voice gravelly with concern. "Halie, can you sense what manner of corruption this is? What dark power could be feeding off this energy?" Varrika asks, her hand resting on the haft of her mace. "I don't like the feel of this. It's like the air itself is tainted."
She glances at Jeane, the sorcerer, who seems both fascinated and disturbed by the magical symbols. "Jeane, if you're going to step any closer, do it carefully. We need to know what we're up against before we proceed."
Varrika's eyes dart to the shadowed depths of the corridor, her battle-worn instincts screaming a warning. She takes a deep breath, the air thick with malevolent energy. "Party," she addresses the group, "I don't think this is just another trap or undead guard. There's something else at work here, something ancient and dangerous. We need to be ready for anything."
She steps forward, her heavy boots echoing off the stone floor. "But we don't have much choice. That sword is our goal, and whatever lies ahead, we'll face it together. Just... be on your guard. I have a feeling we're about to stir up some real trouble."
I can feel it too—a wrongness clinging to the stone like residue from some ancient atrocity. These aren't merely breathing symbols; they're feeding troughs for something unspeakable. Halie's gut instincts are usually right, and if she thinks we need a moment... then we take that moment. Varrika's right—I shouldn't get closer until Halie gives her read on this corruption. We've come too far to stumble into some demonic trap because I was impatient. The air is thick with something—foul intent made manifest, perhaps?—and whatever growled back there isn't inviting us to tea. Let's step back and regroup. Varrika, keep your crossbow aimed at the corridor entrance; Merrin, cover her flank. Seraphine, can you cast any detection spells from here without alerting whatever's inside? And Halie... what do you sense? Is this something we can counter with light magic, or are we dealing with forces beyond even my demonic heritage to comprehend?
I watch as Jeane moves closer to the shadowed corridor, my heart beating an insistent warning rhythm against my ribs. The air here is thick, cloying, heavy with some malevolent presence that chills me to the bone. "Jeane, wait." My voice is a low, urgent murmur, a counterpoint to the oppressive silence that hangs over us all. My eyes dart from the flickering symbols on the wall to the party members gathered around me, their faces etched with a mixture of determination and fear. "Those symbols... they're not just magical runes. They're feeding troughs for something unspeakable." I take a slow step forward, my heavy robes whispering against the stone floor, trying to get a better look at the pulsating energy that seems to emanate from them. "The way they breathe... it's like they're inhaling some unknown force, drawing it deeper into the heart of this tower."
My fingers tighten around the handle of my heavy mace, a useless comfort against the dread coiling in my stomach. I can feel the dark energy radiating off the walls, a cold, malevolent pressure that makes it hard to think clearly. It’s as if reality itself is bruised and bleeding right here, bleeding out its essence into this accursed place. "Halie," I turn to the cleric, her holy symbol held tightly in her hands, a beacon of light in the gloom. "Can you sense what kind of corruption this is? What it might be feeding off?"
