Seraphine's sharp eyes narrowed as she stared into the darkness of the newly revealed corridor, her fingers tightening around the ornate staff in her hands. The air inside this passage felt wrong—old decay and something else, like crushed metal or scorched earth. The runes on the walls weren't just decorative either; they were breathing, pulsing with a dark energy that seemed to seep into the very stone around them.

"This is beyond mere decay," she said softly, her voice barely carrying over the oppressive silence. "This place has been corrupted on a fundamental level." The magic here was ancient and malevolent, twisting the very fabric of reality to suit its dark purposes. She could feel it seeping into the stone itself, into the very air they breathed.

We need to proceed with extreme caution, she thought, her gaze flicking to the other members of their party. One wrong step could trigger a trap or release something far worse. The thought sent a shiver down her spine, but she pushed it aside. They had come too far to turn back now.

"Listen carefully," she said, her voice taking on a more commanding tone. "The magic in this corridor is dangerous—demonic in nature, not just dark or corrupted. We need to find an alternative route if at all possible." Her eyes met Jeane's, a silent plea for understanding. The succubus woman had dealt with demonic forces before; perhaps she could sense the same malevolence that Seraphine felt.

Merrin shifted uncomfortably beside her, her hand still resting on the hilt of her crossbow. "An alternative route? Through what—more haunted woods or maybe a field of angry pixies?" The halfling's attempt at humor fell flat in the oppressive atmosphere of the corridor.
