Phase: converging

Jeane circled the perimeter slowly, her fingers trailing over the carved runes that sealed the entrance—each symbol a glyph of binding and protection, twisted into something profane by centuries of dark intent. The magic here was like nothing she'd encountered before, a sickening amalgamation of sorcery and death energy that called to something primal and hungry within her. "Listen," she hissed to the others, her crimson eyes gleaming with barely contained excitement and apprehension, "this place is crawling with arcane traps and guardian spells. We can't just waltz in there blind—we need to find a way to disable or bypass whatever's keeping this door sealed." Her wings unfurled slightly, leathery membranes stretching as if eager for flight even though the space here was too confined for her to truly take wing.
Halie nodded slowly, her blue-grey eyes scanning the tower's facade with a cleric's practiced gaze. "Agreed," she said softly, "but we can't just stand out here either. Those skeletons might be a distraction—something meant to keep us occupied while whatever's really dangerous gets its bearings." She knelt at the base of the stairs, pressing her palm against the stone. Her eyes closed in concentration as she began to murmur a low chant, silver light spilling from her fingertips and seeping into the ancient rock.
Merrin's eyes darted from Halie to Jeane and back again, her fingers drumming an anxious rhythm on the stock of her crossbow. The halfling scout's gaze lingered on Jeane, noting the succubus's troubled expression. "Well, we're here," Merrin said, her voice tight with forced cheer. "And I'd say we've got ourselves a right proper welcoming committee." She jerked a thumb toward the skeletons, still clattering in their unnatural dance. Merrin took a step forward, crossbow at the ready.
Seraphine knelt beside Halie, her long fingers tracing the intricate patterns carved into the stone. The air here was thick with ancient magic, a potent miasma that clung to her skin like cobwebs. Her eyes narrowed as she studied the runes, their purpose clear even after centuries of decay. "The sorcery used here was not born of simple defense," the elf wizard murmured, more to herself than to Halie, though her words carried enough for those nearby to hear. "These are wards against the very natural order—boundaries meant to contain something far more dangerous than mere undead."
Varrika eyed the crumbling stone tower warily, her weathered hands tightening around the haft of her mace. The air around them felt thick with malice, and the dwarf warrior's battle-hardened instincts screamed at her to be cautious. "Alright, listen up," Varrika growled, her gravelly voice cutting through the tense silence. "This ain't a simple ruin. Whatever sorcery those mad wizards worked here... it's left a foul taint on the very stone." She stepped forward, shielding the more vulnerable members of the party from the tower's yawning entrance.
The tension in their small group tightened for a beat as the interruption refused to go away. Everyone was forced to stay quiet and choose their next move carefully.
