The tower's entrance swallowed them whole, darkness absolute and immediate. Merrin's crossbow bolt clattered to the floor as he scrambled back, eyes wide and useless in the void. Seraphine cursed under her breath, staff raised but "

"Everyone okay?" Jeane's voice cut through the silence, tense but controlled. "Halie? Varrika?"

"I'm here," Halie replied, her breathing audible over "

Varrika spoke up next, voice gruff but steady. "I'm good. Just standing my ground."

Merrin shifted his grip on the crossbow, squinting into the darkness. "Anyone else see anything moving out there? I can't even tell where the walls are anymore."

Seraphine's staff flickered, its light barely cutting through the oppressive gloom. "This is ridiculous. We need proper lighting, not just… this pathetic glow."

Jeane's voice came next, distant as if she were listening to something only she could hear. "I think I've mapped most of the ward patterns. They're concentrated every few meters—"

Halie cut in, her voice tight with barely contained panic. "Concentrated? That means we can't just… oh, this is bad."

Varrika's response was blunt and reassuring. "Yeah, but it also means we know where they are. We just need to find a way around them without touching anything stupid."

Merrin snorted, crossbow still at the ready. "Around them? They're covering every centimeter of this corridor!"

Seraphine snapped back, her patience fraying. "Then we purify them! Halie, can't you do something with your divine magic?"

Halie's voice was strained as she replied, "Theoretically, yes. But touching those wards could corrupt my magic source—"

Jeane interrupted, her tone dry despite the situation. "Or maybe just break the connection to whatever's powering them? "

Varrika chimed in next, her voice grim but practical. "Unless we can disable or bypass them somehow, those bonehead undead are probably going to show up again."

Merrin muttered under his breath, crossbow still trained into the darkness. "Great. More zombie chums. Just what this adventure needs."

Seraphine shot back, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "Oh yes, because a magical corruption contest is exactly what we need right now!"

Jeane's voice cut through the tension again, calm and measured. "We could try mapping the exact trigger points—"

Halie interjected, her voice rising in panic. "Mapping? We need to get out of here before they respawn! Can't we just—"

Varrika growled, cutting off Halie mid-sentence. "No. We're not charging ahead blindly into a death trap."

Merrin shifted his stance, crossbow still raised but clearly uncomfortable with the situation. "So what? We just stand here in the dark waiting for them to come back?"

Jeane's voice was steady and reassuring as she replied, "First things first—we need to understand these wards completely before attempting anything."

Seraphine snapped back, her patience wearing thin. "Understand them? We need to get out of this damn tower!"

Halie whimpered, her voice barely audible over the others. "I'm not… I can't… the corruption here is—"

Jeane cut in again, her tone firm but gentle. "Halie, breathe. We're all still alive. Varrika's right—rushing in blindly will just get us killed."

Varrika added, voice rough with agreement. "We take our time. Map every inch of these wards, find the weak points, and then disable them properly."

Merrin muttered under his breath, crossbow still at the ready. "Sounds like a great plan. Except for the part where we're standing in total darkness—"

Seraphine exploded, her patience finally snapping. "

THEY'RE ALL INSANE! This is a death trap! We need to get out NOW!"
