Phase: converging

The tower looms before them like a malevolent sentinel, its ancient stones covered in runes that pulse with a dark energy. The air around the entrance feels thick and heavy, almost resistant to their passage. A palpable tension settles over the group as they realize this is no mere historical site—the magic here is active and hostile.
Jeane circles the gate slowly, her senses extended outward in a subtle arcane probe. Her wings twitch slightly as she focuses, the leathery appendages a stark contrast against the gray stones. "There's movement nearby," she reports softly to the group. "Not inside yet, but close enough to be concerning." She runs a hand along one of themore intricate runes, her crimson eyes narrowing as she deciphers its purpose.
Halie steps forward next, her silver cross held out like a shield against unseen forces. The runes seem to pulse more intensely at her approach, and she takes an involuntary step back. "These aren't just symbols," she says, her voice tight with concern. "They're active wards—dark magic designed to keep us out or... something in." She turns to Merrin, seeking the rogue's expertise. "Can you make sense of these? Find a way through without triggering them?"
Merrin approaches the gate with a blend of curiosity and apprehension, her halfling stature making the runes seem even more imposing. She traces one particularly complex symbol with a nimble finger, feeling a faint tingling sensation at her touch. "Well now," she mutters under her breath, "ain't this a pretty pickle we've got ourselves into." Her dark eyes scan the patterns, looking for weaknesses or disruptions in the magical barrier.
Seraphine stands nearby, her sharp elven gaze fixed on the runes. She brushes against her holy symbol—a small silver disk that seems almost to hum with opposing energy in this place. "These are old," she murmurs, more to herself than the others. "Older than anything I've studied." Her fingers trace the air around one particularly malevolent-looking rune, and she feels a shiver run down her spine. "We need to be careful here. The magic is... hungry."
Varrika steps forward next, her scarred hands tightening on her mace. She eyes the wards with a veteran's wariness. "Those wards are no joke," she grunts. "They're designed to keep out the living, but let in certain... entities." She doesn't need to say what kind of entities—their purpose here is clear enough. She turns to Jeane, nodding slowly. "You're right, sorcerer. Best not to linger here. But breaching that gate won't be as simple as kicking it down."
The group stands in tense silence for a moment, the weight of their decision settling heavily. The tower's entrance looms before them—a gateway to riches and glory, or a tomb for adventurers who underestimated its power. The choice is theirs, but the runes seem to pulse faster now, as if sensing their deliberation and growing more eager by the second.
