Shadow of the Ancients / Run 013 / Main Story
Round 4 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1
Seraphine’s fingertips brushed the central rune, and it flared with a sudden, icy blue light, sending a chill wind through the gate’s stone frame; the wind rattled the exposed bone fragments of the nearby skeletons, making them stagger back a few paces.
Jeane steps closer to the gate, her dark eyes narrowing as she focuses her sorcerous sight on the intricate runes themselves; they pulse with ancient power and a subtle, malevolent intelligence. She ignores Seraphine's startled gasp—the apprentice wizard should have been more cautious—but her attention remains locked on the stonework, noting the central rune's flare and how it affects the skeletal guardians. I see it now, she thinks, tracing the flow of magical energy through the lattice with her mind’s eye: entry is possible, but not without cost or challenge.
Seraphine takes a step back from the gate, her eyes wide with alarm as the runes flare with icy blue light. She holds up a hand to stop anyone else from touching them, then begins frantically tracing the pulsing patterns in the air with her fingers, trying to decipher their meaning before they can summon anything more than the already stirring skeletons. Her heart hammers against her ribs as she mutters under her breath, "Shadow demons? We need to be careful, we have no idea what we're dealing with here."
Merrin steps forward to examine the runes more closely, running her nimble fingers along their etched patterns. She searches for any hidden mechanisms or pressure points that might disable the gate's defenses without triggering its traps or summoning its guardians.
I step forward to stand between my companions and the gate, ready to shield them from any immediate threats while they study the runes. I keep my heavy mace at the ready and scan our surroundings for signs of danger, particularly any skeletons that might be lurking nearby and drawn by the gate's magic. The air feels heavy with a sense of ancient power and malice - this is no ordinary locked door, but a guardian of secrets long buried. I trust my companions' skills to open it safely, but I will not hesitate to step into harm's way if needed to protect them.
