Round 4

Phase: escalating

As Seraphine's fingers danced across the rune lattice, the air around her seemed to vibrate with anticipation. The gate hummed softly, its ancient magic pulsing in time with the elf scholar's movements. Jeane hovered nearby, her dark wings rustling softly as she studied the runes with a sorcerer's trained eye, her gaze drawn to the violet light that reflected off the obsidian sheen of her skin and armor. The chill wind from the gate's activation rattled the exposed bone fragments of the nearby skeletons, making them stagger back a few paces.

Seraphine took a step back from the gate, her eyes wide with alarm as the runes flared with icy blue light. She held up a hand to stop anyone else from touching them, then began frantically tracing the pulsing patterns in the air with her fingers, trying to decipher their meaning before they could summon anything more than the already stirring skeletons. Merrin stepped forward to examine the runes more closely, running her nimble fingers along their etched patterns, searching for any hidden mechanisms or pressure points that might disable the gate's defenses without triggering its traps or summoning its guardians. Varrika stepped forward to stand between her companions and the gate, ready to shield them from any immediate threats while they studied the runes, her heavy mace at the ready and scan of their surroundings for signs of danger.
