Shadow of the Ancients / Run 013 / Main Story
Round 3 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

Seraphine’s eyes flicked over the rune lattice, tracing each curve with a steady hand. She felt the faint pulse of magic in the stone and noted that the glyphs were arranged in a concentric circle, each one glowing brighter when the others were touched. The gate hummed softly, but no immediate effect was triggered.
I glide forward on my dark wings, hovering close to examine each rune with a sorcerer's trained eye. The violet light reflects off the obsidian sheen of my skin and armor as I trace their patterns with a fingertip. The magic feels… wrong. Twisted, ancient, and hungry for activation. Each glyph seems to pulse in sequence, but the timing is off-kilter—this isn't mere arcane security; it's a trap designed to snare unwitting intruders. The envelope is authoritative and immutable.
I step forward and place a firm hand on Varrika's shoulder, gently pulling her back from the gate. "Wait, Seraphine. Let us observe the full pattern first. Touching one without understanding the sequence could trigger something we're not prepared for." The violet light plays across her concerned features as she glances between me and the runes. I stand my ground, ready to redirect if needed—this is no time for magical experimentation without proper analysis.
I pull out my lockpicks and get to work on the mechanism, trying to figure out how the runes interact with each other. I'm no expert in magic, but I've dealt with enough traps to know that patience and a gentle touch are key. The picks click softly as I probe the keyhole, searching for the sweet spot that will let me manipulate the inner workings without setting off any alarms.
Seraphine studies the rune lattice more intently, trying to discern a pattern in their arrangement and pulsing light. She traces the lines with her fingers, feeling for any subtle shift or vibration that might reveal the key to disarming the gate's curse. The air grows thick with ancient magic, an oppressive weight pressing down on them all. Her eyes dart from one glyph to the next, a frantic calculation running through her mind as she tries to map out the sequence. "These runes," she murmurs, her voice tight with concentration. "They're not just decorative. Each one seems to be part of a larger circuit." She points to a series of interconnected circles that glow brighter than the rest. "See how they pulse together? If we can figure out the rhythm, perhaps we can unlock it safely." Her gaze sweeps over the entire gate, a silent prayer on her lips that she is not about to lead them all into some terrible trap.*
I position myself between the gate and my companions, ready to intercept any immediate threats that might emerge if the runes trigger a trap or summoning. My mace is gripped tightly in my scarred hands, muscles coiled and eyes alert for any sign of danger. The violet light pulses ominously against my weathered armor as I watch the others study the ancient defenses. Every instinct screams to keep them safe, even in this treacherous place where courage borders on foolhardiness.
