Phase: converging

The air in the hidden chamber seemed to thicken the moment Varrika set foot on the last step, pressing in around her like a physical weight. Each breath felt heavy and labored, the sweet stench of decay mingling with something older, hungrier than simple rot. Her scarred hands tightened instinctively around the haft of her mace as she scanned the vast space ahead.
The walls here were ancient stone, lined with flickering torches that cast dancing shadows across crumbling mortar and weathered rock. At the center of it all stood an ornate altar, and upon it lay the Time-Splitting Sword—a legendary artifact whose blade pulsed with an eerie green light, drawing the very darkness towards it like a lodestone. Varrika's stomach twisted as she felt the raw malevolence radiating from the weapon, a palpable hunger that gnawed at her senses.
"Stay back," she called up to Halie and Merrin, her voice barely cutting through the sudden roar of wind that seemed to come from nowhere. The very stones around them vibrated with power, and the air grew thick with noxious fumes that stung her eyes and scorched her throat. She raised her mace defensively as the ground beneath her feet began to tremble, a deep rumbling that spoke of ancient magic unleashed.
The sword pulsed again, brighter this time, and something shifted in the shadows beyond—the scrape of bone on stone, the rustle of cloth dragging across rubble. Varrika's heart pounded in her chest as she realized they were no longer alone in this cursed chamber.
