Round 70 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As Varrika takes cautious steps forward with mace at the ready, the ground shudders beneath her feet. She stops just inches from the pulsing green light emanating from the Time-Splitting Sword on the altar. Suddenly, the air around her erupts in a cacophony of hissing and crackling as the poisonous gases intensify, their noxious fumes searing her skin. Halie stumbles backward, clutching her nose and coughing, while Merrin's lifeless body begins to convulse uncontrollably. The Curse of the Sword's influence seems to be spreading, infecting the air around them with an otherworldly energy. The floor beneath Varrika's feet shudders violently once more, sending her stumbling backward. As she regains her balance, a section of the stone wall slides open, revealing a narrow passageway that stretches into darkness. The sound of rumbling stones and creaking wooden beams echoes from deeper within the tower, growing louder by the second. Varrika must decide: Will she investigate the passageway or attempt to retrieve the Time-Splitting Sword from the altar before it's too late?
I feel every inch of this ancient stone pressing down on us, thick and suffocating—this place was built to contain something massive. The air is wrong here, not just stale but saturated with intent, like a predator holding its breath before striking. That sword pulses with each beat of my heart now, brighter since Merrin touched it. Whatever's bleeding through this floor isn't just curse rot anymore; it's hunger. I don't care how much treasure Halie promises—nobody walks away from something that wants to consume you whole.
The ground trembles beneath my feet, and I struggle to keep my balance. The sickly green light pulses faster now, casting eerie shadows across the crumbling chamber. I can feel the malevolent energy seeping into my bones, threatening to overwhelm me. But we cannot turn back now. Merrin's fate depends on us retrieving the Time-Splitting Sword. I take a deep breath and step forward, mace at the ready. The air grows thicker with each passing moment, and I can feel my lungs burning as I inhale the poisonous fumes. Halie coughs beside me, her wings fluttering weakly. Merrin's body spasms on the ground, the curse consuming her from within. We are running out of time. I must make a decision: do we attempt to retrieve the sword now, risking certain death in the process? Or do we investigate the passageway first, hoping to find a way to neutralize the curse before it claims us all? I look to Jeane and Halie, my eyes hard with determination. "We need to move," I growl, my voice barely audible over the groaning of the ancient stones. "But we must be cautious. Stay alert, and watch each other's backs. Whatever lies ahead, we face it together."
With a heavy heart, I take another step forward, the weight of the tower pressing down upon me like a suffocating blanket. The green light beckons, promising power beyond our wildest dreams...and a fate worse than death for those who dare to claim it. But we have come too far to turn back now. We will retrieve the Time-Splitting Sword, or die trying. And may the gods have mercy on our souls.
