Phase: converging

The air inside the crumbling stone tower grew thick and heavy as they descended deeper into its depths. Each breath felt labored, the atmosphere resisting their passage like a physical weight pressing down upon them. The ancient magic that saturated every stone seemed to pulse with malevolent intent, seeping into their bones with each passing moment.
Halie moved forward cautiously, her torch held high as she scanned the shadows for any sign of movement or immediate threat. The flickering light cast dancing patterns across the crumbling walls, revealing the intricate carvings that covered every surface—runes and symbols that seemed to writhe and twist under her gaze. She could feel the wrongness of this place seeping into her very soul, a dark presence that fed upon her fear and apprehension.
Seraphine followed close behind, her sharp eyes narrowed in concentration as she studied the complex patterns adorning the gate before them. The air here was different somehow, thick with an energy that resisted their very existence. She could sense the barrier growing stronger with each passing second, a wall of pure malevolent energy that seemed to press against her defenses from all sides.
Jeane brought up the rear, her wings tucked close as she moved forward with predatory grace. The scent of decay and ancient death hung heavy in the air, a palpable presence that seemed to seep into her very being with each passing moment. She could feel the tower's consciousness watching them, assessing their worthiness before deciding whether to grant them passage or consume them whole.
As they stood there, bathed in the pulsing glow of the central rune, the temperature plummeted several degrees in an instant. A faint mist began to swirl around their feet, rising up from the stone floor like spectral fingers reaching for them. The runes on the gate flickered ominously, their light growing brighter as if responding to their presence.
Halie took a step back instinctively, her hand moving to the hilt of her mace as she whispered, "Something's changed—the magic here feels angrier somehow." Seraphine nodded in agreement, her eyes fixed on the pulsating runes. "The barrier is resisting us—fighting back against our intrusion," she hissed.
Jeane moved closer to the gate, her wings half-spread as if ready to take flight at a moment's notice. The central rune pulsed brighter still, its light casting long shadows across the chamber as the mist continued to swirl around them. A low rumble began to emanate from deep within the stone, vibrating through the ground beneath their feet.
Halie spoke in a barely audible whisper, "We need to be careful here—this place doesn't want us to pass." She could feel the corruption seeping into her very soul with each passing moment, a dark presence that seemed to feed upon her fear and apprehension.
