The central rune pulsed brighter with their entry, its crimson light painting the chamber walls in shades of blood and shadow. Merrin lay at the bottom of a hidden pit trap, her wiry halfling frame sprawled amidst the dust and debris, while above her Varrika tossed down a rope with practiced ease. "Grab on!" the human warrior called out, her voice echoing slightly in the confined space.

Jeane circled the perimeter warily, her dark leathery wings half-spread for balance as she studied every inch of the stonework. The magic here was old beyond measure, hungry and wrong in ways that made her succubus blood curdle. Each pulse of the rune sent fresh waves of malevolent energy washing over them, thick with the stench of ancient death.

Seraphine stood near the entrance, her sharp elven eyes narrowed in concentration as she studied the intricate carvings surrounding the central rune. The wizard's fingers traced patterns in the air, mimicking the movements of the magical symbols before her. Her mind raced, trying to decipher their purpose, to understand the nature of the power contained within this...

The air grew heavier with each passing moment, thick and oppressive like the inside of a tomb sealed for centuries. Dust motes swirled in the flickering torchlight, caught up in currents that seemed to have no natural source. The skeletons below stirred restlessly, their bones rattling against each other with an ominous clatter.

Merrin clutched the offered rope tightly, her knuckles white against the rough hemp fibers. She'd faced plenty of dangers in her career as a rogue—bandits, monsters, rival thieves guilds—but something about this place felt... wrong. Not just dangerous, though danger was certainly present. The pit below gaped like an open mouth waiting to swallow them whole, and the dwarf's usual bravado faltered ever so slightly.

"Alright, Varrika," she called up, her voice strained but steady. "Think you can grab that rope without disturbing whatever's in there? No sudden moves now." Her dark eyes darted around the chamber, searching for any sign of movement or threat beyond what was visible at first glance.

Seraphine's lips moved silently as she worked through a complex series of arcane calculations, her gaze never leaving the pulsating rune. The magic here was unlike anything she'd encountered before—raw and primal, tied to forces that predated even the elves' ancient histories. She could feel it pressing against her skin, trying to insinuate itself into her mind through sheer force of will.

The wizard took a deep breath, steeling herself against the oppressive energy. "The wards are destabilizing," she said finally, her voice tight with concern. "We must tread carefully, or risk unraveling the very fabric of time itself!" Her sharp elven eyes flicked to Jeane, then to Merrin below. "This is no mere puzzle box—this chamber is a prison, and we've just woken whatever was sleeping inside."
