Varrika's eyes narrow as she surveys the chamber. "This place stinks worse than a troll's armpit," she growls, her voice echoing slightly in the confined space. "And I ain't just talking about the dust and decay. Something foul is at work here." She moves to stand beside Halie, her presence a solid wall of muscle and determination. "I don't like it either," she admits, glancing at the cleric's worried expression. "But we didn't come all this way to turn back now. We need that sword, and by the gods, I intend to get it." She raises her mace in a defiant gesture. "Let whatever's hiding in here try something. I'll smash its teeth in."

Jeane nods approvingly at Varrika's words, a small smile playing on her lips despite the situation. "That's the spirit," she says, moving to stand beside Merrin. "But remember, we need to be smart about this. No unnecessary violence unless absolutely necessary." She casts a quick spell, a shimmering ward of protection enveloping the party.* "There. That should help keep us safe from whatever magical traps might be lurking here."

Merrin glances around the chamber again, her rogue's instincts on high alert. "I don't like it either," she says, her voice low and serious. "But Jeane's right—we need to be smart about this." She moves closer to Seraphine, her hand resting casually on her crossbow.* "What do you make of those runes, Seraphine? Any idea what kind of traps we might be dealing with?"

Seraphine steps forward, her elegant robes swishing softly as she approaches the pulsating runes. She extends a gloved hand, stopping just short of touching them. "These are no mere decorations," she says, her voice tight with concentration. "They're a complex magical ward, designed to keep something—or someone—inside." She traces the patterns in the air with her finger, leaving faint trails of blue energy that quickly dissipate.* "I can sense at least two layers of protection here. The outer layer is responding to our presence—see how it pulses brighter? The inner layer... I'm not sure. It feels dormant, but active somehow. Like it's waiting for something."

The group falls silent, the weight of Seraphine's words settling over them like a heavy cloak. The childish chuckle echoes again, louder this time, seeming to come from everywhere and nowhere at once.
