The ancient stone tower's entrance yawned open with a sound like a tomb seal breaking, revealing a corridor that exhaled decay and something far worse—an old magic that curdled the air inside. The ground shuddered beneath their feet, a low rumble that was less geological than malevolent intent made manifest. A faint glow emanated from deeper within the structure, pulsing like a heartbeat, bathing the entryway in an eerie light that cast long shadows across weathered stone.

Jeane stepped forward first, her crimson eyes narrowed as they traced the complex patterns etched into the now-open gate. Her fingers hovered just above the ancient carvings, not touching directly, as she probed the magical defenses with her sorcerer's senses. The central rune pulsed brighter as she focused on it, likely an active component of whatever held the door sealed for centuries. "This isn't mere stonework," she murmured, more to herself than the others. "It wants to keep us out." The Time-Splitting Sword itself felt heavy in its sheath at her side, its own dark energy calling to her despite—or perhaps because of—the obvious curse clinging to it like oil on water.

Merrin moved closer, her halfling eyes darting nervously around the crumbling corridor. The air felt wrong here, thick with an ancient oppression that made her skin crawl. She could smell decay and something else—old magic, dark and hungry. Her fingers twitched at her sides, resisting the urge to draw her mace. "Alright, listen up," she said in a low voice, addressing the party. "I don't like this one bit. Something's not right about this place, and I've got a bad feeling in my gut." She glanced at Jeane, who was still working on the wards. "...

Seraphine moved to examine the gate more closely, her sharp elven eyes scanning the intricate runes with a scholar's focus. The silver holy symbol at her throat seemed to pulse with a faint warmth against her skin—a silent warning of the malevolent energy that permeated this place. As Jeane traced the central rune with her fingers, a low vibration hummed through the stone, resonating deep within Seraphine's bones. The air in the tower entrance was thick and stale, smelling of decay and something older, more fundamental, than mere death.

Varrika stepped across the threshold into the tower's dark interior, her dwarf instincts screaming at her to turn back. The air here was thick and stale, tainted by an ancient, foul magic that set her teeth on edge. Every instinct screamed at her to leave this accursed place be. But they had a job to do—a quest to complete—and she'd be damned if she let fear stop her from seeing it through. "Stay sharp," she growled to the others, her hand gripping her heavy mace tightly. "We don't know what might be lurking in these shadows."
