The tower's central chamber pulsed with ancient power as they entered, the air thick and resistant like water against stone. The gate's runes glowed with an eerie light that shifted into a warning pattern: 'Turn back while you still can.' A faint whisper echoed through the room: 'You shall not leave this place unscathed.'

Halie approached the pedestal warily, torch extended. The malevolent energy here was thick enough to choke on—she could feel it clawing at her faith, trying to twist her resolve. This wasn't mere magic; it was something older, hungrier. "No," she said sharply, addressing their gathering nervousness. "We're not turning back now. But we need a plan that doesn't involve any of us touching that thing." The silver cross around her neck felt cold against her skin.

Seraphine pressed herself back against the stone wall, ancient runes pulsing with ominous life. The air here was thick with wrongness that prickled along her skin like static electricity—it felt as if the very air itself was alive and unwelcoming. Her arcane senses tingled, warning of unseen malevolence lurking in the shadows.

Varrika hefted her mace, every dwarf instinct screaming to retreat but knowing they'd come too far for that now. "Merrin, watch our backs," she growled. "Jeane, Halie—you two are our best hope of figuring out this magic mess. Don't touch anything until we know it won't bite." She stepped forward warily, dwarven senses alert for movement.

Merrin sidled over to Seraphine, voice low as his eyes darted around. "See something in those shadows?" This place was giving him the creeps, but they'd come too far to turn back now. He just hoped Halie and Jeane could figure out a safe solution without triggering whatever dark magic was lurking here.

The ground rumbled again, sword's vibration intensifying. The central rune pulsed brighter with their entry, likely an active magical defense or trap. Malevolent energy thickened inside the tower, ancient death magic detectable.

Jeane's wards crackled and popped ominously. Every instinct screamed to retreat, but they'd come too far for that now. The gate's shifting carvings rearranged themselves into a clear warning: 'Turn back while you still can.' A faint whisper echoed through the room: 'You shall not leave this place unscathed.'

Halie approached the pedestal warily, torch extended. The malevolent energy here was thick enough to choke on—she could feel it clawing at her faith, trying to twist her resolve.
