Round 10 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

The pedestal shudders violently, and the sword's vibration intensifies, causing the ground to tremble. The air crackles with electricity, and a faint whispering grows louder, echoing through the room: 'You shall not leave this place unscathed.' The central rune's malevolent energy surges, causing the runes on the gate to glow with an eerie light. As the party watches, the gate's intricate carvings begin to shift, rearranging themselves in a pattern that seems to spell out a warning: 'Turn back, mortals, while you still can.'
The sword's vibration resonates through my very teeth now—not good. The central rune pulses in time with it, drawing power from the weapon itself? Or feeding on our proximity? Either way, we're standing in an active magic circle whether we want to be or not. I catch Varrika's eyes over the pulsing glyphs between us and hold them for a second—my expression saying what words won't: This is a trap designed to ensnare us. But we've come too far for caution alone. The air thickens with something ancient, hungry. Something in here wants our souls for breakfast—or maybe just a taste of demonblood to power itself up after centuries cooped in stone. I can feel it testing the edges of my wards like fingers tapping glass.
I approach the trembling pedestal warily, torch extended. The malevolent energy here is thick enough to choke on—I can feel it clawing at my faith, trying to twist my resolve. This isn't mere magic; it's something older, hungrier. "No," I say sharply, addressing our gathering nervousness. "We're not turning back now. But we need a plan that doesn't involve any of us touching that thing." The silver cross around my neck feels cold against my skin, almost as if the metal itself is afraid. I move closer to Merrin and Seraphine, lowering my voice. "Listen—I can try to purify this space once we're past the wards, but I need you to find a way around them first." My eyes lock with Varrika's. "And whatever you do, don't let your dwarven curiosity get the better of you."
The ground shakes again, harder this time. A low groan echoes through the stone—a sound like the tower itself is alive and in pain. I raise my holy symbol, a small comfort against such ancient power. "If that thing speaks again," I mutter, "ignore it. Spirits that talk aren't usually worth listening to."
I press myself back against the cold stone wall of the tower entrance, the ancient runes on the gate seeming to pulse with an ominous life of their own. The air here is thick with an oppressive energy, a sense of wrongness that prickles along my skin like static electricity. It’s as if the very air itself is alive, and it does not welcome us. My arcane senses tingle, warning me of something unseen and malevolent lurking in the darkness. A faint glow emanates from one of the deeper shadows cast by the flickering torchlight, a pale light that seems to move against the natural flow of the flame.
"Merrin," I call out, my voice dropping to a near-silent whisper as I gesture towards the shadowed corner. "There's... something here."
The ground trembles beneath my boots, the air thick with an ancient power I can't begin to fathom. Jeane's wards crackle and pop ominously. Every dwarf instinct in me screams to turn back, but we've come too far for that now. I heft my mace, ready to bash through whatever undead or demonic horrors may lurk ahead. "Merrin, watch our backs," I growl. "Jeane, Halie - you two are our best hope of figuring out this magic mess. Don't touch anything until we know it won't bite."
I step forward to the pedestal, crossbow at the ready, eyes scanning the shadows for any hint of movement. The Time-Splitting Sword shimmers in the torchlight, its blade pulsing with an otherworldly energy. I can practically feel it whispering promises of power...and damnation. "This is a trap," I mutter. "Ain't no way it's gonna let us just waltz in and grab that thing." I turn to the others, voice grim but resolved. "Stay sharp, stay together. And for the love of all that's holy - do NOT touch that sword unless you want to see what happens when a dwarf gets cursed."
I sidle over to Seraphine, keeping my voice low. "See something in those shadows we should know about?" My eyes dart around, alert for any sign of movement. This place is giving me the creeps, but we've come too far to turn back now. I just hope Halie and Jeane can figure out a way past these wards without triggering whatever dark magic is lurking here. My fingers twitch, eager to draw my crossbow or crowbar, ready for whatever horrors might emerge from the gloom. But for now, I hold my position, senses straining for any hint of danger. Varrika's right - there's no way this trap is going to let us just waltz in and grab that sword. We need to be smart about this. I glance over at the fighter, catching her eye. "Keep your eyes peeled. I've got a bad feeling about this."
