Merrin's lockpicks dance across the ancient mechanism, the runes etched into the stone beginning to glow with an otherworldly light. The air around the gate thickens, and the pulse of malevolent energy surges. Suddenly, the central rune darkens, its edges bleeding a faint, pulsing red. The gate's mechanisms shriek in protest as it unlocks with a grinding screech, revealing a dark tunnel beyond.

Jeane holds up her hand, arcane energy crackling across her fingertips. 'Stop,' she says, her voice cutting through the tension like a blade. 'Before we take one step inside, let's be clear on what we're walking into. That moan wasn't just echo.' She glares at the darkness beyond the gate, her crimson eyes narrowed in suspicion.

Merrin takes a deep breath, trying to steady her nerves as she steps up to the gate's lock mechanism. 'Alright,' she mutters under her breath, more to herself than to anyone else. 'Let's see what we're dealing with here.' She crouches down to examine the complex array of gears and levers, her quick hands already at work.

Seraphine crouches down beside the gate, running her fingers over the ancient runes etched into the stone. The complexity of these wards is staggering. This isn't just about keeping intruders out; it's about containing something inside. Her eyes fixate on the central sigil, a swirling vortex of symbols that seems to draw her in. It feels... alive.

Halie moves closer to Merrin, her crossbow ready but lowered. The grinding sound of the lock is somehow worse than silence—it's the sound of violation, of ancient seals being forced open against their purpose. I don't like this. The air tastes wrong already, thick and sweet like spoiled fruit. She looks at the pulsing central rune with a mix of awe and dread. That wasn't natural.

Varrika steps forward into the shadows of the tunnel, her mace gripped tightly. 'Stay close,' she grunts. 'And keep your eyes open. If anything feels off, shout.' The darkness beyond swallows her words, leaving only the heavy silence of the ancient stone.

The gate hangs open now, a dark maw leading into the heart of the tower. The air inside tastes of dust and decay, mixed with something older, something wrong.
