The tension in The base of a crumbling stone tower, its entrance sealed by an ancient rune-covered gate, deep within the haunted Whispering Woods tightens for a beat as the interruption refuses to go away. Everyone is forced to stay quiet and choose their next move carefully.

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

I approach the gate with a grim determination, my fingers tracing the cold stone runes. They pulse with an ancient magic that makes my skin crawl—the dark energy is unmistakable, a sickening aura of undeath clinging to every inch of this cursed place. The uneven stones Merrin mentioned are indeed concerning, but I can't shake the feeling we're being watched from within those shadowed depths. My wings shift uneasily behind me as I focus my senses. "These runes aren't just for decoration," I mutter, more to myself than anyone else. "They're a ward against... something." The hermit's map suddenly feels woefully inadequate—as if Elric himself had been too afraid to mark the true dangers lurking beyond this threshold. I take a deep breath, steeling myself. "We need to be cautious here. Merrin, I'll support you with a detection spell while you work on the lock—if there even is one." My voice carries an edge of apprehension that I can't quite hide. "Seraphine, Varrika—keep your weapons ready. And Halie..." I turn to face her directly, my crimson eyes serious. "...if those shadow demons are real, we'll need more than our skills to handle them."

I begin weaving a subtle spell of detection around the gate, searching for hidden triggers or magical traps. The air grows thick with power as I work—the runes seem to pulse faster in response to my magic. "Something's reacting," I warn softly. "Whatever's beyond this door knows we're here."

Halie

Halie · Cleric

The silver cross around Halie's neck catches the weak sunlight filtering through the gnarled tree branches above. I don't like this place. Those runes aren't for keeping out the wind—they're for keeping something in. She moves closer to the gate, her blue-grey eyes scanning the ancient stonework with practiced caution.

Glancing back at Merrin, Jeane, and Seraphine, she speaks in a low voice. We need to approach this carefully. Merrin, I know you're eager to get inside, but rushing that lock could trigger whatever's waiting beyond it. And Varrika—if something does come at us from behind, we'll depend on you to hold the line. She turns her attention back to the gate, her fingers tracing the outline of a particularly complex rune. These symbols, they're... wrong. I've never seen their like in any holy texts or dark tomes. They twist light instead of reflecting it. A shiver runs down her spine, but she doesn't step back. We need to understand what we're dealing with before we attempt entry. Her hand moves to the hilt of her heavy mace, a comforting weight. Elric's map may have gaps, but he wouldn't lead us into certain death. There has to be a way through these defenses—a clever entrance or a momentary weakness in the magic. We just need to find it. She meets Seraphine's grave expression with a determined nod. I agree. The runes are beyond my understanding too, but I won't let faith alone guide us into a trap. Her eyes narrow as she studies the gate more closely. There must be an order to this—magic always has patterns. If we can reverse engineer the sequence...

Merrin

Merrin · Rogue

I step forward cautiously, my eyes darting between the intricate runes etched into the stone and the potential weak points in the ancient gate's structure. "Alright, let's see what we're working with here," I mutter under my breath as I approach the lock mechanism. My nimble fingers dance along the edge of the gate, feeling for any hidden latches or pressure plates that could trigger an alarm or worse. The stones on either side of the gate seem unstable, their uneven surfaces hinting at potential traps or secret passages. I make a mental note to keep a close eye on them as we attempt to enter the tower. "Seraphine," I call out in a hushed tone, "I could use your eyes over here. Keep watch for any magical wards or tripwires while I work on this lock."

My heart races as I begin to manipulate the mechanisms with my trusty set of lockpicks. Each click and whir sends a jolt of adrenaline through my veins, knowing that one wrong move could spell doom for our entire party. "Varrika, Halie," I whisper, "Make sure nothing sneaks up on us while we're busy. The last thing we need is to be caught off guard by some undead abomination or shadow demon."

As I continue to work the lock, my mind races with possibilities of what horrors might await us beyond this gate. But one thing is certain - with the skills and determination of our party, we'll face whatever challenges lie ahead together.

Seraphine

Seraphine · Wizard

I approach the gate, my sharp elven eyes tracing the intricate patterns carved into the ancient stone. The runes seem to writhe under my gaze, absorbing the light rather than reflecting it back.
"The hermit's map feels woefully inadequate," I murmur, more to myself than to my companions. "Elric himself had been too afraid to mark the true dangers lurking beyond this threshold."
My fingers hover over one particularly complex symbol, a swirling vortex of lines that seems to pull at my vision. A shiver runs down my spine as I feel the faint thrum of dark magic emanating from it.
"We need a careful approach," I say, turning to face the others. My voice carries an edge of apprehension, but beneath it is the unyielding determination of one who has faced such threats before. "Merrin, support Jeane with a detection spell while you work on the lock—if there even is one. Seraphine, Varrika—keep your weapons ready. Halie, if those shadow demons are real, we'll need more than our skills to handle them."
The air grows heavy, thick with the promise of unseen dangers. I can almost hear the whispers of the dead echoing through the cracks in the stone, a chilling reminder of what awaits us inside this accursed tower.

Varrika

Varrika · Fighter

I approach the gate cautiously, my hand resting on the hilt of my heavy mace. The air feels thick with tension and the weight of ancient magic. I scan the stonework around us, searching for any signs of instability or hidden dangers. "Halie, keep an eye out for any magical traps," I call out, my gravelly voice cutting through the tension. "Merrin, be careful with that lock. We don't want to trigger anything."

My gaze darts between the party members, assessing their readiness. "Seraphine, Varrika - stay alert. If those shadow demons are real, we'll need to be ready for a fight."

As I wait for their responses, my mind races through possible scenarios. The hermit's map feels woefully inadequate, and Elric himself had been too afraid to mark the true dangers lurking beyond this threshold. I take a deep breath, steeling myself for what lies ahead. "Let's do this carefully," I mutter under my breath, my fingers tightening around the mace. "No unnecessary risks."

My eyes return to the ancient gate, the runes seeming to pulse with an ominous energy. Whatever's beyond this door knows we're here. We need to be ready for anything.
