The air in the cavern felt wrong—alive in a way stone and earth should never be. Seraphine could feel it pressing against her skin, seeping into her pores like liquid magic. Every breath filled her lungs with power so ancient it set her teeth on edge. The very stones hummed around them, vibrating with an energy that made her fingers tingle and her spell formulae itch to be cast.
She glanced at Merrin, noting the way her friend's hands glowed faintly. "Merrin," she whispered, her voice trembling despite her efforts to remain calm. "Your hands... they're glowing. Do you feel anything strange?" The elf woman's eyes were wide with fear and confusion as she stared at her own palms, and Seraphine felt a chill run down her spine. Whatever was happening here, whatever ancient power had been awakened by their intrusion, it clearly wasn't something to be taken lightly.
The air around them seemed to shimmer with unseen energies, and Seraphine could feel the magic in her own blood responding to the ancient power that pulsed through the cavern. She knew then, with a certainty that settled like ice in her veins, that they were far from safe—and that their only hope of survival might lie in embracing whatever dark gift this place had bestowed upon them.
She closed her eyes for a moment, taking a deep breath to steady herself. "Alright," she said finally, opening her eyes and meeting Merrin's gaze with a determination that belied her inner turmoil. "Let's find out what this trial is all about—and how we can use it to free our friends."
