Merrin moved forward to follow Jeane, but the ground beneath her gave an ominous creak. Seraphine's eyes widened in alarm at the sound echoing through the narrow ledge. "What was that?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper. The metal bar she clutched suddenly seemed heavier in her hand.

Jeane hovered at the chasm's edge, her crimson eyes narrowing as she processed the ground's ominous creaking. "The very stone seems to groan beneath us," she said, glancing back at Merrin and Seraphine. She noted their expressions of concern. "This ledge is unstable—perhaps Halie's foolishness isn't our only threat down here." Her wings beat slowly as she considered the situation.

Merrin's heart pounded in her chest at the ominous groan of the ledge beneath her feet. She glanced at Seraphine, seeing her own unease mirrored in the wizard's eyes. "Stay sharp," she murmured to her friend, her voice tense. She turned her attention back to Jeane as the succubus hovered at the chasm's edge, considering the instability of their footing.

Seraphine watched Jeane hover at the edge of the chasm, her wings beating steadily as she scanned the walls for safer descent points. The groaning of the ledge beneath their feet had her heart hammering against her ribs in a frantic drumbeat of fear and urgency. Merrin's warning about the instability of their footing only heightened her concern, but she knew they couldn't remain where they were.

The air was thick with tension, the very stone seeming to pulse with ancient power.
