As Seraphine steps forward, the air grows heavier, and the torches on the walls seem to flicker in response. The carvings on the walls appear to be more than just decorative, as they begin to glow with a faint, eerie light. The sound of dripping water grows louder, and the ground beneath her feet gives a slight tremor, as if the very foundations of the tower are shifting. The passage narrows further, forcing Seraphine to walk in single file behind Jeane. The air is thick with the scent of decay and something else - a musky, almost animalistic smell that makes the back of her neck prickle. Suddenly, Jeane stops, her eyes fixed on a large, ancient carving that seems to be pulsing with a malevolent energy. "Look at this," she whispers, her voice barely audible over the sound of dripping water. "This symbol here - it's the same one we saw on the wall above. I think it's a warning, or maybe even a trap."

The ground beneath their feet begins to rumble, and the torches on the walls cast eerie shadows on the walls, making it seem as though something is moving in the darkness.

Merrin

Merrin · Rogue

I see the pulsing carving Jeane points out, and a chill runs down my spine. The symbol is unmistakable - the same one we saw on the wall above, before the boulder nearly crushed us. No, this can't be good, I think grimly, my grip tightening on my staff. The ground beneath my feet trembles again, and I instinctively step back, my heart pounding. The air grows even colder, and the shadows on the walls seem to writhe and twist, as if they're alive. This is a trap, I realize with a sinking feeling in my gut. It has to be.

I look at Jeane, my eyes wide with fear and uncertainty. "We need to get out of here," I say urgently, my voice barely a whisper. "Now."

But even as the words leave my mouth, I know it's too late. The passage ahead of us begins to collapse, ancient stone crumbling and falling into the darkness below. The sound of rushing water grows louder, and I can see the faint glow of more runes along the walls, pulsing in time with the carving Jeane pointed out. We're trapped, I realize with a sudden wave of panic. Trapped underground, with no way out and no idea what's waiting for us in the depths.

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

Damn it. I quickly reassess our situation, my mind racing through potential escape routes and magical options as the tunnel collapses around us. The floor beneath me gives another violent shudder, and I realize we have seconds before the entire passage comes down. Too deep already, I think grimly, but there's no time for hesitation now. I grab Seraphine by her robes and yank her towards me. "Hold on!" I shout over the roar of collapsing stone. "This is going to hurt!"

I gather every ounce of my power into a spell that might—might—not completely annihilate us both on impact. The air crackles around us as magical energy coalesces, my wings beating furiously against the dust and debris. Now or never, I think, and we plunge into the darkness below.

Seraphine

Seraphine · Wizard

The ground beneath my feet gives way, and I feel myself falling, plummeting into darkness as the tunnel collapses around us. Jeane's hand grips my robes tightly, pulling me close as we descend through a swirling vortex of dust and debris. The air howls past my ears, and for a moment, all I can see is chaos. Then, with a sickening lurch, we land hard on what feels like solid ground. Dust fills my lungs, choking me, and I cough violently, trying to clear my throat.
"Where... where are we?" I gasp out, my voice hoarse from the fall and the dust. I struggle to push myself up, my muscles screaming in protest, but my staff provides some support. The air here is even colder than it was in the tunnel above, and a strange, foul smell hangs heavy around us—a mixture of damp earth, rotting vegetation, and something else, something metallic and sharp that makes my stomach turn.
I look around, trying to get my bearings. We seem to be in some kind of subterranean chamber, much larger than the narrow tunnel we fell through. The walls are slick with moisture, and the only light comes from a few dimly glowing crystals set into the ceiling high above. They pulse with a faint, eerie blue light, casting long, twisting shadows across the floor. "Is this... another part of the tower's foundations?" I ask, my voice a strained murmur as I try to keep it down.
Suddenly, a sound cuts through the stillness—a low, guttural growl that seems to come from everywhere and nowhere at once. I freeze, my heart hammering against my ribs. It’s followed by the scraping of claws on stone and the heavy thud of something large moving in the darkness beyond our small circle of light.
I turn to Jeane, my eyes wide with fear. "Do you hear that?" I whisper, my voice trembling. Before she can answer, the sound comes again, louder this time, and closer. A chill runs down my spine as I realize what it must be—the same thing Merrin was worried about before we got separated.
I reach for a spell on instinct, my fingers tracing the intricate patterns of power in the air. But my magic feels sluggish, weak, as if the very air around us is draining my strength. "We need to move," I say, my voice firm despite the fear that courses through me. "Whatever's down here... it knows we're here now."
