Phase: converging

The chamber air crackled with arcane energy as Jeane completed her spell, a wave of shimmering distortion washing outwards from her extended claw. The spell wasn't aimed at whatever lurked within the darkness, but rather at the very fabric of reality around it—an attempt to create a localized field that might disrupt magical traps or weaken any creatures attempting to emerge.
The effect was immediate and unsettling. As the wave of magic passed through the yawning maw, the air inside seemed to ripple like water disturbed by a stone toss, and a chorus of high-pitched squeaks and clicks erupted from the depths. Whatever was down there, it didn't like the arcane interference one bit.
The ground beneath them began to tremble more violently, and the air around Varrika shimmered with a faint silver light as Seraphine completed her shield spell. Halie's hands remained outstretched towards the dark maw, her face a mask of concentration. As the creature's gaze lingered on Varrika, the ground beneath her feet began to shake more violently.
Halie staggered back as the ground shook violently beneath her feet. The sudden psychic onslaught from the ward spirit made her gasp aloud, her mind reeling as if hot needles were being driven into her brain. She felt an overwhelming urge to flee, her instincts screaming at her to abandon this cursed place. But then she saw that single glowing eye fixed on Varrika, and Halie's stomach dropped with horrified realization.
This thing... it's ancient, far older than anything Jeane had ever encountered before. The sheer malevolence radiating from the dark maw made her skin crawl, her vision blurring slightly as fear threatened to overwhelm her. No. She wouldn't let it get the best of them. With a sharp gesture and completed arcane chant, she unleashed a wave of disruptive magic towards the opening.
*As the wall burst open behind her, Merrin instinctively dropped into a low crouch, her crossbow snapping up to aim at the yawning darkness. She felt the malevolent presence emanating from that maw like a physical weight pressing down on her, making every muscle tense in preparation for whatever monstrosity was about to emerge. Her eyes narrowed as she tried to peer into the depths of the hole, seeing only shadow and the faint glint of something... unnatural.
*I feel a deep chill settle into my bones as I watch the dark maw yawn open in the wall behind Varrika. The ancient power radiating from it is unlike anything I've ever encountered before—it's a malevolence that seems to seep into my very core, threatening to unravel the threads of my magic. My hands instinctively move to trace the arcane symbols etched on my staff, a gesture of both comfort and preparation as I begin weaving a shield spell.
*I feel the ancient power radiating from that dark maw like a physical weight pressing down on me, making every muscle tense in preparation for whatever monstrosity is about to emerge. My grip tightens on the hilt of my greatsword, the rough metal biting into my calloused palm as I raise it high. The air around us seems to thicken with dark magic, making it hard to breathe as the creature's presence grows stronger.
