Phase: escalating

Jeane's crimson eyes narrow as she studies the pulsating runes covering the ancient gate. The violet glow casts eerie shadows across her pale features, highlighting the sharp angles of her cheekbones and the delicate curve of her horns. Her dark leather wings twitch restlessly, a subtle betrayal of her inner tension despite her outwardly calm demeanor.
"Indeed," she replies to Halie's caution, her voice smooth and measured. "We must proceed with utmost care, but we cannot allow this dark magic to deter us from our quest." She turns to Merrin, admiration in her eyes for the rogue's bold approach to the dangerous barrier. "Your keen senses serve you well, my dear. Perhaps there is a way to... persuade these ancient wards to part without invoking their full power?"
Seraphine steps forward, her elegant robes whispering softly as she moves closer to examine the runes. The elven wizard's sharp gaze sweeps across the intricate patterns, her brow furrowing in concentration. "This magic is unlike anything I've encountered before," she muses aloud, more to herself than the group. "There's a rhythm to it, a heartbeat that seems to echo the very essence of this place." She extends a gloved hand, stopping just short of touching the stone surface. The violet light pulses faster in response, seeming to caress her outstretched fingers.
Varrika shifts her weight, the heavy mace in her hands a stark contrast to the delicate magic dancing before them. Her scarred features are set in a grim expression, but her eyes betray a fierce determination. "Aye, we need to be smart about this," she growls, her voice rough with weariness but steady with resolve. "But we can't just stand here forever." She glances at Merrin. "What do you see there, little one? Any weak points in this magical barrier?"
The tower looms above them, its broken structure a silent witness to centuries of secrets and sorrows. The air grows heavier, charged with an anticipation that makes the hairs on the back of their necks stand on end. Something within those crumbling walls stirs, sensing the presence of intruders who dare to disturb its long slumber.
Merrin crouches closer to the gate, her nimble fingers tracing the air just above the stone surface without actually touching it. The violet glow intensifies at her proximity, pulsing faster as if in response to her scrutiny. "These runes..." she mutters, frowning in concentration. "They're not just decorative—they're tied together somehow, like a spell woven into the very fabric of the stone." She glances up at Halie. "Breaching it might be risky, but I don't think we can just walk through here either."
Halie steps closer to Merrin, her silver holy symbol clutched tightly in one hand. The violet light washes over her features, casting stark shadows that accentuate the concern etched into her expression. "We need to find a way around or through without triggering everything," she says, her voice low and urgent. "Jeane, your talk of force—we don't know what's inside. And using magic here, even yours, might be playing right into whatever's waiting for us."
