Round 100 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As the party stands frozen, the Keeper's form blurs and shifts, its eyes never leaving Jeane's face. The air around it seems to ripple with dark energy, and the growling creature from beyond the gate takes a step closer, its eyes fixed on the group. The runes on the door pulse with an ominous power, and the magic within the tower begins to stir, as if sensing the disturbance. Suddenly, the Keeper's voice echoes in Jeane's mind, its words dripping with malevolent intent: "You should not have come here, little sorceress. You will make a fine addition to my collection."
My hands tighten on my crossbow, every muscle in my body coiled and ready to strike at a moment's notice. I watch the Keeper's form shift and change, my eyes narrowing as I try to discern any hint of what lies beneath the illusions. Jeane's words echo in my mind—shapeshifter, reality-warpers, entities that feed on fear and desperation. And now, with those runes pulsing with dark magic and a growling creature approaching from the shadows, I can't shake the feeling that we've stumbled into something far more dangerous than any of us anticipated. I glance at Varrika, her mace gripped tightly in her hand, her body poised to defend us against whatever threats may come. She's a fighter, through and through, but even she looks uneasy in the face of this ancient power. Seraphine, too, seems on edge, her fingers tracing patterns in the air as she prepares whatever spells she thinks might help us. But it's Jeane who has my full attention now. Her words to the Keeper are brave, bold, even reckless—but they also carry a weight of truth that I can't ignore. This thing, whatever it is, is not what it seems. And if it really can take on the form of anyone or anything we know... I shake my head, trying to dispel the thought before it takes root in my mind. No, we can't think like that. We have to stay focused, stay alert, and trust in our own strength and skill. I step forward, positioning myself at Jeane's side, my crossbow aimed directly at the Keeper's heart. "Whatever you are," I say, my voice steady despite the fear coursing through my veins, "whatever games you're playing... they end now." I take a deep breath, steeling myself for what's to come. "You've tried to intimidate us, to scare us away from our goal. But it won't work. We're here for the Time-Splitting Sword, and we won't leave without it. So you can try your tricks and your illusions all you want, but in the end... we will prevail."
I glance at the others, my eyes meeting each of theirs in turn. Varrika, Seraphine, even Jeane—we're a team, united in our purpose and our determination to see this through. And with that knowledge, that unspoken bond of trust and loyalty, I feel a surge of strength course through me. We may be outmatched, outnumbered, and facing dangers we can't even begin to comprehend. But we have each other—and that, more than anything, will be our greatest weapon against whatever lies ahead. So with a final nod of resolve, I turn my attention back to the Keeper, my finger tightening on the trigger of my crossbow. "Last chance," I say, my voice a low growl. "Step aside, or face the consequences of your own hubris."
And then, with a deep breath and a silent prayer to any gods that might be listening, I wait for whatever comes next.
I feel the Keeper's dark energy wash over me in an unsettling wave, its form still shifting and blurring at the edges of my vision. My wings instinctively beat once as if to clear the air, but even this small gesture feels sluggish against whatever magic is pressing down on us from within these cursed walls. The growl from deeper inside the tower has grown louder now—a low, rumbling sound that seems to vibrate through the very stone beneath our feet. It's a sound of warning, or perhaps hunger. And then its voice echoes in my mind: "You should not have come here..." The words drip with malice and ancient power. I can feel the others shifting behind me—Varrika ready to fight, Merrin aiming her crossbow, Seraphine preparing some spell I'm sure she's cooking up. But even with their strength at our backs, this feels different from the threats we've faced before. This isn't just a monster in the dark; it's something ancient and calculating. My gaze remains fixed on the Keeper—or whatever it truly is—as its form continues to change shape before us. One moment it looks almost human, the next like some twisted mockery of Elric himself. The runes on the door pulse with an ominous rhythm in time with my racing heartbeat. I can sense Halie's tension beside me, her fingers no doubt tight around that crossbow trigger. We're all ready to fight—but I'm not sure we fully understand what it is we're up against here. The magic hums under my skin, eager to be unleashed if needed. But something holds me back—perhaps a flicker of caution where before there was only boldness. This entity speaks of a collection, which suggests more than just mindless violence at work here. It's hunting us, and I won't let any of us fall prey to its twisted games. My hand hovers near my belt, fingers brushing the hilt of a dagger I keep concealed there—a blade that can cut through illusions and reality itself if need be. But using it now might be playing right into whatever trap this thing has laid for us. The growl sounds again, closer this time, and I catch a glimpse of movement in the darkness beyond the corridor. Whatever else is down there, waiting, we're running out of time to decide our next move. I glance at Seraphine—her eyes are closed as she concentrates, likely weaving some protective spell or trying to divine the nature of this creature before us. I trust her judgment more than anyone's in situations like this, but even she looks uneasy. A part of me—the reckless, arrogant part that has gotten us out of scrapes before—wants to simply attack and hope strength prevails. But something about this situation demands a different approach. We need information, not just violence. The Keeper takes another step forward, its form solidifying for a moment into something resembling Elric once more. My eyes narrow as I study it closely. Is that really him? Or is it just using his appearance to manipulate us? I feel the weight of my companions' eyes on me—waiting for my lead, my decision. They trust me to guide them through this, but even I'm not sure which path to take. The magic in the air grows thicker, heavier, as if the tower itself is holding its breath, waiting to see what we'll do next. And I know that whatever choice I make now could very well mean life or death for all of us—not just physically, but spiritually too within this cursed place. So instead of rushing headlong into combat, I take a deep breath and let it out slowly. "Wait," I say softly, holding up one hand to signal the others to hold their positions. My crimson eyes never leave the Keeper's form as I speak, each word measured and careful. "I think we need to understand what exactly you mean by 'collection' before we decide how to respond to your... invitation."
My free hand moves in a subtle pattern, arcane symbols tracing the air between us as I prepare a spell of my own—something that might let me see through its illusions or at least disrupt them long enough for us to react. "Because if you think we're going anywhere with you willingly," I continue, voice dropping to a dangerous purr, "then you clearly don't know who you're dealing with. We didn't come all this way just to become some twisted trophy in your macabre display."
The air around me crackles with power as the spell takes shape, ready to be unleashed at a moment's notice. But I wait—listening for any response from the Keeper, watching for any shift or change in its form that might reveal more about what it truly is. Because despite my bold words, I'm not foolish enough to underestimate this threat. Whatever game it's playing, we need to play it smart if we want to survive—and hopefully find our way back out of this nightmare with the Time-Splitting Sword and our souls intact. So I stand there, wings half-spread in what might be interpreted as either aggression or defensive readiness, and wait for whatever comes next. The growl echoes again from down the hallway—the new threat growing impatient—but my focus remains solely on the Keeper before us. Because right now, this is the true danger: not whatever lurks in the dark beyond, but the ancient power standing barely ten feet away, masked as a friend and offering a path that might lead only to doom.
The air in the tower grows thick with tension, each person holding their breath as the Keeper's form shifts and wavers before us. Jeane’s spell hums in the air between us, a tangible threat, yet I can see the uncertainty flickering in her eyes. She’s trying to buy time, to understand what we’re dealing with before we strike—but we don’t have the luxury of time here. The growling creature from deeper within the tower is growing bolder, its presence an ever-present danger lurking just out of sight.
My mind races as I try to process everything that’s happened so far. The Keeper’s shifting form, its ominous warnings, the ancient magic thrumming through these walls... it all points to one terrifying conclusion: we may have released something far more powerful than any monster or trap we could have anticipated. And now, with Jeane’s spell poised to disrupt whatever illusions hold this thing at bay, I feel a sudden, icy fear grip my heart. If this is truly some kind of shapeshifter, or worse, an entity that feeds on fear and confusion... then striking first might be exactly what it wants.
I look around at the others—Varrika, her mace gripped tightly, ready for combat; Merrin, her crossbow aimed with deadly precision; Halie, her bowstring taut, her eyes scanning the shadows. Each of them is prepared to fight, to defend our party and our mission. But I know that raw strength alone won’t be enough against this enemy. We need strategy, we need magic, and most importantly, we need to understand what we’re facing before we make our move.
My gaze returns to Jeane, her crimson eyes fixed on the Keeper with a mixture of defiance and wariness. She’s right to be cautious, but I can feel the seconds ticking away, each one bringing that growling creature closer. Whatever this thing is, it seems to be orchestrating our panic, drawing us into a confrontation on its own terms.
I step forward, placing myself between Jeane and the Keeper, my hands raised in what I hope will be interpreted as a gesture of peace rather than aggression. The runes on the door pulse with an ominous rhythm behind me, a constant reminder of the magic we've disturbed and the power we've unleashed.
"Wait," I say, my voice firm but calm over the low growl from down the hall. My eyes dart between Jeane and the Keeper, trying to convey the gravity of our situation. "Jeane, hold your spell. We need answers before we act."
I turn my full attention to the Keeper, studying its shifting form with a critical eye. It looks like Elric now, but I know it’s not him—something about the way its eyes seem to bore into mine is utterly wrong. This thing is ancient, malevolent, and incredibly dangerous.
"You claim we should not have come," I continue, my voice taking on a tone of cool inquiry. "But you also speak of a collection. What kind of collection? And more importantly..." I take a deliberate step closer, my posture straightening with an air of scholarly curiosity that feels utterly foreign in this context, but necessary. "...what could possibly make you think any of us would willingly join it?"
My fingers twitch at my sides, ready to weave a spell of my own if needed. But first, I have to try something different. Something to throw off whatever game this creature is playing. If it wants fear, I'll give it confusion instead.
"Because if you imagine we're here for anything less than the Time-Splitting Sword, then you clearly know nothing about the purpose that binds our party together. We are not lost souls seeking shelter, nor are we foolish adventurers looking for a challenge."
I gesture to the others, my movement encompassing our entire group. "We came for power, yes, but also for knowledge, for the greater good of our world. And we won't be deterred by mere threats and illusions."
My gaze locks with the Keeper's, unwavering. I can feel the magic building around us, a tangible pressure in the air that speaks to the tower's true nature. This is a test, I realize. A test of will, of purpose, of the very foundations of our resolve.
"So tell us," I finish, my voice dropping to a near whisper, yet still carrying across the tense space between us. "What do you truly want? And what price will you demand for letting us pass?"
