Phase: converging

The tower's magic prickled at their skin like a thousand tiny needles, an ancient power that felt wrong in its very essence. Every instinct screamed at them to run, but the entity's words held them frozen, rooted in place by fear and curiosity. The air around the Keeper shimmered with dark energy, its form shifting and blurring at the edges of their vision—a living shadow that seemed to absorb and reflect the gloom of the tower itself.
Merrin's fingers tightened on her crossbow, every muscle in her body coiled and ready to strike at a moment's notice. She watched the Keeper's form shift and change, her eyes narrowing as she tried to discern any hint of what lay beneath the illusions. Jeane's words echoed in her mind—shapeshifter, reality-warpers, entities that fed on fear and desperation. And now, with those runes pulsing with dark magic and a growing threat from deeper inside the tower, the situation had deteriorated rapidly.
Jeane felt the Keeper's dark energy wash over her in an unsettling wave, its form still shifting and blurring at the edges of her vision. Her wings instinctively beat once, as if to clear the air, but even this small gesture felt sluggish against whatever magic was pressing down on them from within these cursed walls. The growl from deeper inside the tower had grown louder now—a low, rumbling sound that seemed to vibrate through the very stone around them.
Seraphine's sharp eyes darted between the Keeper and the pulsing runes, her mind racing as she tried to decipher the ancient magic at work. The entity's words sent a fresh wave of terror through her—sacrifice demanded, crossroads sealed, consequences for their intrusion already set in motion. But even in her fear, the scholar in her couldn't help but analyze every detail, searching for any loophole or weakness that might offer them an escape.
The air in the tower grew thick with tension, each person holding their breath as the Keeper's form shifted and wavered before them. Jeane’s spell hummed in the air between them, a tangible threat, yet she could see the uncertainty flickering in her eyes. She was trying to buy time, to understand what they were dealing with before they struck—but they didn't have the luxury of time here.
The growling creature from deeper inside the tower took another step closer, its form now partially visible—a hulking beast covered in matted fur, its eyes glowing with an unnatural light. The runes on the door pulsed with renewed intensity, and Seraphine could feel the ancient magic within the tower beginning to stir, as if sensing the disturbance.
Merrin's hand tightened on her crossbow once more, her finger hovering near the trigger. "Jeane," she hissed, her voice barely audible, "what in the abyss is that thing? And what did it mean by 'sacrifice'?"
