Halie's vision blurs again as she regains her footing, her crossbow at the ready. The growling creature takes a step forward, its eyes fixed on her with an unnatural hunger. She can feel the air thicken with malevolent energy, the ancient magic within the tower reacting to her presence. The pulsing green light from the portal behind her seems to grow brighter, as if the very fabric of reality is straining to contain the darkness within.

Merrin

Merrin · Rogue

I press my back against the crumbling stone wall, my heart pounding in my chest as I listen to the growling creature approach. The portal behind me pulses with an ominous green light, and I can feel the weight of Merrin's absence like a physical ache.

I should have stopped her from going through that portal alone. Should have known better than to let Seraphine weave some arcane tether without understanding its cost. And Halie—Gods, Halie is still out there with whatever's lurking beyond this threshold.

But I can't focus on that now. Right now, I need to survive. Need to find a way through this cursed tower and back to my friends. Alive.

I take a deep breath, trying to steady my nerves. The crossbow feels heavy in my hands, but it's better than nothing. Thirty feet of rope coils at my hip; eight torches in my pack; three healing potions around my neck. Weapons, supplies, faith—I have what I need to survive this. But survival isn't enough anymore. Not after... everything.

I glance back at the portal, the growling creature taking another step forward. The air thickens with malevolent energy, the ancient magic within the tower reacting to my presence. I can feel it in my bones—something is wrong here. This setup, it's all off. And yet...

And yet, a small part of me wonders if this is what we've been fighting for all along. To face the darkness head-on and emerge victorious. To prove that our faith, our courage, our love for each other—it's enough to overcome even the deepest of evils.

I tighten my grip on the crossbow, feeling the familiar weight of the weapon in my hands. Merrin may be gone, but I still have a job to do. And I won't let her sacrifice be in vain.

So I take a deep breath, steeling myself for what's to come. And with a silent prayer to whatever gods might be listening, I step forward into the unknown, ready to face whatever horrors this tower may hold.

Varrika

Varrika · Fighter

I step forward, my heavy boots thudding against the stone floor as I grip my mace tightly. The growling creature takes another step forward, its eyes fixed on me with an unnatural hunger. I can feel the air thicken with malevolent energy, the ancient magic within the tower reacting to my presence. But I don't have time to dwell on that now. Halie's safety is my top priority, and I won't rest until she's back in my arms again. "Halie!" I call out, my voice echoing off the crumbling walls. "If you can hear me, answer!"

The creature snarls, its fangs glinting in the pulsing green light from the portal behind me. I level my crossbow at it, my hands steady despite the pounding of my heart. "One more step and I'll put an arrow right between your eyes," I growl, my finger tightening on the trigger. But even as I speak, I know that this isn't just some mindless beast. There's a purpose to its presence here, and I fear that Jeane may have just stumbled right into it by going through that portal alone. I take a deep breath, steeling myself for what's to come. Merrin may be gone, but I still have a job to do. And I won't let her sacrifice be in vain. So I step forward, ready to face whatever horrors this tower may hold. The creature growls, its eyes fixed on me with an unnatural hunger. But I don't flinch. I've faced worse than this before, and I'll face worse still if it means keeping Halie safe. "Let's see what you're made of," I mutter, my lips curling into a grim smile. And with that, I step forward into the unknown, ready to fight for the ones I love.
