Round 33 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

Merrin's eyes widen as the tendrils of mist reach out to grasp her legs, the glowing symbols on the gate pulsating with an otherworldly energy. Jeane's hand tightens around the hilt of her crossbow, ready to fire at a moment's notice. The whispering grows louder, echoing in Merrin's mind like a warning from beyond the grave: "Turn back... while you still can..."
Varrika's grip on her mace tightens, her jaw set in determination. "We're not backing down," she growls, her voice carrying a fierce resolve. Halie's hand rises to clutch the silver cross at her throat, her eyes locked on the gate with a mixture of fear and conviction. The mist swirls around Merrin's feet, tendrils reaching out like ethereal fingers...
I can feel it—the hunger behind those symbols, the intelligence testing us. This isn't just a ward—it's a predator trying to decide which of us looks tastiest. I'll make this easy for you, you ancient bastard... The runes flare as I push back with my own power, arcane energy crackling along my wings.
I watch the tendrils of mist reach towards my legs, their touch cold and unnatural. My hand goes to the dagger at my belt, ready to cut through any grip that tries to hold me in place. The runes on the gate pulse with an ominous rhythm, each symbol seeming to watch me with malevolent intent. I can feel the fear creeping up my spine, but I push it down. This is what we trained for—to face the unknown and come out alive on the other side. And if that means walking into whatever trap this tower has laid for us... well, that's just the price of treasure. "Alright, you ancient bastard," I mutter under my breath, my eyes fixed on the runes. "Let's see what you've got."
I step forward, ignoring Jeane's warning. The tendrils of mist swirl around my feet, but I don't let them stop me. With a quick flick of my wrist, I slice through them with my dagger, feeling a slight resistance as if cutting through cobwebs. The gate looms before us, the runes pulsing with an otherworldly energy. Whatever lies beyond, it's not going to be easy. But we've come this far... might as well see what we're made of. I turn to the rest of the party, a fierce smile on my face. "Well, team—looks like we're about to find out if we're heroes or fools. So which is it gonna be?"
I watch Merrin slice through the mist tendrils, her reckless courage both admirable and infuriating. She turns to the rest of us, that grin on her face like she's daring whatever's behind that gate to try us. "Heroes or fools, eh?" I mutter under my breath, hefting my mace. "Guess we'll find out soon enough."
The runes on the gate pulse with an ominous rhythm, each symbol seeming to watch us with malevolent intent. Whatever's waiting beyond that barrier, it's not going to be easy. But Merrin's right—we've come this far. Might as well see what we're made of. I turn to Jeane and Halie, my expression grim. "If you're going to do something about those runes, now's the time. The rest of us..." I square my shoulders, mace at the ready. "We're going in."
The mist swirls around Merrin's feet, tendrils reaching out like ethereal fingers. I keep my eyes on them, ready to move if they try to pull her in. "Stay sharp," I call out, my voice a low growl. "Whatever's in there... it wants us off balance. We can't let it win."
I take a deep breath, steeling myself for whatever trials await. The gate looms before us, an ancient and ominous barrier between us and the secrets within. But we've faced worse than this. And if the rumors are true... whatever's inside that tower could change the course of our world. So bring it on, I think, my grip tightening on my mace. Let's see what you've got.
I watch Merrin step boldly toward the gate, her dagger flashing as she cuts through the mist. There's courage there—reckless maybe, but undeniable—and part of me wishes I had half her fire right now. Emotional reaction: Fear grips my stomach like cold iron, but I push it down with grim determination. This isn't just about survival anymore—this is about faith. Can we trust that the goddess brought us here for a reason? Or are we fools walking into our graves? Immediate intent: I fall back slightly, putting distance between myself and the gate's insidious pull. My hand closes around the silver cross at my throat, fingers tracing its familiar shape. Proposed action (internal): I need to focus. The goddess might not speak in words here, but maybe she speaks through intuition—through that feeling of rightness or wrongness when we make choices. Internal conflict: Every instinct screams for us to turn back. But Merrin's right—the gate is sealed now, and whatever opened it is already inside. We can't walk away knowing there's a path into this evil place. Emotional shift: I take a deep breath, forcing my racing heart to slow. If we're going through that door, we do it together—with eyes open, hearts ready, and faith unbroken. Whatever's waiting beyond... let it come. We've got more than just steel on our side tonight. Cautious agreement: Jeane's right about one thing—I can feel it too. Whatever's beyond this gate isn't just watching us... it's measuring our wills like a butcher appraising meat. Hesitation: The runes pulse with an almost mocking rhythm as I speak, and I grit my teeth against their insidious effect. But... the longer we stand here letting this thing play with us, the weaker our position gets. Acceptance of reality: Disrupting those runes won't be subtle, and whatever's inside will know exactly what we're doing. But we've come too far to turn back now. Whatever lies beyond... it's not going to be easy.
